Jan Jelinek.

I've listened, thoroughly, to all of his albums, and I just can't get into his work. Almost. But not quite.

The Strokes...they are cool and I like some of their songs, but I can't get into em thaaat much.

Radiohead...another group who's sh1t I like but I don't love. Only a few songs I've heard are as incredible as their reputation suggests. Their albums Kid A and OK Computer are cool, but I don't find myself wanting to go back to them that often.

Jan Jelinek is dope. I enjoy his compositions. Not quite for everyone. Very subdued experimental dub techno.

Keeping in vein with this thread....I'd have to say Broadcast.

Radiohead. They are every critic's darlings but I don't get it. I listened to about 4 of their albums straight and didn't think they were that special. I don't think their wack, just not great and I can't get into it.

That new Joanna Newsom album that just came out which is getting is good review is also something I can't get into. I don't even know what the hell type of music that is. It was a waste of money. Again, not wack but I can't get into it.

Add to my list most punk rock. I can fukk with say The Clash or the older stuff but this AFI, My Chemical Romance, Blink 182 and Dropkick Murphys and most of that bullsh1t is terrible to me. White kids here in Berkeley and Oakland go nuts for Green Day too, I think they are pretty mediocre.

I hate new punk....I hate this disco punk trash tha usually is played by bands that start with the word "The".

I enjoy everything punk from the seventies onto the late nineties. I used to go apeshiit for Victory records stuff, Epitaph records stuff like Buried alive, Thumb, Catch 22, Swinging Utters, Reach the Sky, Sick of it All, Pennywise, Bad Religion, even some NOFX. I can't even fukk with most "punk" now.

You pretty much have the worst taste ever. Who the **** calls 'em "The Chilis" anyway.

I'd go so far as saying I hate good portion of these bands:

Radiohead
Sufjan Stevens
Devendra Banhart
NOFX and their ilk.

I'll add more as I think of 'em.

Radioheaad is in my top ten. Absolutely Amazing.

I have never been able to get into Sublime. Everyone and their dog likes them at least where I live, but they do absolutely nothing for me.

Radiohead happens to be my favorite band, but damn I hate Radiohead fans. You think G-Unit stand are bad? Sheesh.

Prince makes dope music I know, but his music just doesnt click with me.

I could never really get into Sublime.

Thats because people that listen to ICP are far far below the intelligence level of an average human, I'd say they are more akin to a slightly burnt piece of toast.

My contribution to this thread: Hot Chip. I've tried countless times to get into them, and it just isnt happening. Everything points to me liking them, but I just cant.

I felt the exact same way, then I stumbled upon a few gem songs of theirs. I listen to these in a playlist and start thinking about how weird it is that these guys AREN'T my favorite current band. Try these and let me know if they work for you: "Crap Kraft Dinner", "Boy from School", "Colours", "Over and Over", "Disguise". If you need them upped, let me know.

Wow, and I thought I didn't understand Radiohead fanatics before . . . but I never would have thought one of those self-righteous ones would speak of their great music God as "rock shiit".

Anyone who thinks Kid A and anything after it are more than 3.5/5 albums needs to get better acquainted with Brian Eno and David Bowie and thereby realize that Radiohead are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from the innovators their little puzz-azz Oxford brains think they are.

OK Computer and the Bends are solid 4.5 albums, though. ;)

I have some Brian Eno shiit and lots lots of David Bowie. Low is one of my favorite albums.

Granted, Radiohead borrows from that Eno stuff, but they definitely got their own innovations on top of being great songwriter(s). Some people hear it and love it (like me), some people hear it and don't like it (which I understand), and some people don't hear it at all (which is sad). I wouldn't change a thing about OK Computer, Kid A, or Amnesiac. And I happen to like them all more than Low or "Heroes".

Radiohead was great from The Bends through OK Computer. After that they got joints for sure but it seems to me, to be?: a) far to contructed aka not organic song writing in the leas and b) far to easy to pick out exactly what they were listening to it's like " Oh yeah there's the little Eno part oh there's a little DJ Shadow, They were bumping that Wire in the studio"

To me TV On The Radio has succeeded in not falling into thse traps and making music in a very similar vein that sounds so much more natural.

I've only heard one of their songs, and I thought it was good but nothing to motivate me to explore further. Do you have any recommendations?

Really everything they've done is good, but might as well start with Return to Cookie Mountain, it's their newest and probably easiest to find.

I gotta respect that (I just love to jab at Radiohead sometimes, and use Bowie/Eno to do it). In my opinion The Lodger is > "Heroes"--and it never gets talked about. I think Another Green World by Eno is better than any of his collaborations with Bowie, though. I hope you've heard that.
