THE 101

Pretty much everything he drops is amazingly dope, Odelay and Sea Change being total masterpieces. Hes completely innovative and like no one else out there...the only one I would say is close is Elliott Smith.

He's great but I'd say Ryan Adams...

hell naw.
i dont know, even though Becks newest stuff is kind of hit or miss i'd still say that hes one of the greatest of the past while. i cant really think of anyone else at the moment though either.

Yeah, the past two albums have been spotty, but I can't think of another solo artist in the time period that had two albums as good as Odelay and Sea Change. Rock and Roll BEEN dead, though. And he isn't head and shoulders more innovative--stop letting Spin mag tell you what's "new".
I really wish Elliott Smith wouldn't've been mentioned, either. Blahk.
I'd say Ryan Adams over him as well.

That's quite an honor for a dude who hasn't put out but one classic in his career. In all honesty Odelay is his only completely great album, and these last couple have been total garbage. If the any solo artist had the run that Jeff Tweedy has had with Wilco in the past ten years I would consider them but nah, not a single one.

Heartbreaker - classic
Gold - very solid crossover album
Demolition - sihts on most cats demos
rock n roll - ****s nails
love is hell - masterpiece
cold roses ^^^^^^^^^^^
jacksonville city nights - the only ****** tonk I can listen to, his vocals are impeccable
29 - on the same vein as love is hell

I'm proud to say I've never read Spin in my life.
And I dunno where the hate for Guero is coming from. I think its a great album...The Information was patchy at times but still really good.

Add Jeff Buckley to that list too. But yeah, Beck's albums have been awesome to say the least.
"Mutations"' is an underated piece of work.

Buckley died in 97 and put out Grace in 94...how does he qualify for this list???
Anyways the point I'm making with Jay is that its pathetic how folks in the Alt. music forum get on some elitist bullsh1t and act like they're somehow above hip hop...Denying that Jay is among the best and most prolific artists of the last 10 years is fuccking absurd (skanky sucks).
Ryan Adams is cool and honestly I've never heard a full album so I can't really speak on him, but I think Shadowlands, Where the Stars Go Blue, Note to Self Don't Die, and his cover of Wonderwall are all great. He seems to be really talented and has a pretty impressive range of styles. If you think he's dope put me onto some other songs please.

The vast majority of Hip Hop today is, for all intents and purposes, children's music. Especially the variety that Jay-Z makes.
