View Full Version : Question for musiq: Danity Kane

This question is for musiq if he can answer it.

What happened to Danity Kane? Diddy basically abandoned the promotions of their project to forcefeed "Press Play" from September until now. However Danity Kane was doing the best numbers that Bad Boy had in years.

I haven't seen any new videos from them, no commercials, etc.

I know Diddy does this to other artists (pushing them aside for his own interests), but this was a bonafide platinum selling group (or had the potential to) that he halted their growth.

I'd like some input from what's going on at the Bad Boy offices.

I ain't musiq, but their new video comes out this week or next week.

their project did kind of get abandoned though. With the right singles and promotion, they could have gone plat easy. Still can if a song or two catches.

They were damn near gold two weeks out of the gate. What's the last Bad Boy album that went gold, period?

Diddy dropped the ball on that one. Bad Boy can't look promising to any aspiring artists at this point. He used to be able to make excuses for poor promotion due to having problems with the artists or saying their material wasn't up to par. Danity Kane comes with a complete market for the R&B/pop market and they were hard-working and had a solid fanbase.

The scope of their marketing plan is a lil different. Promotion wise they didn't have to go that route with music videos. The buzz they created on television based on the Making the band series was great for their specific target market. Puff knew they would sell out the gate just off that alone. "Showstoppers" was released to target the hip hop/R n B fans as the pop/mtv fans would be copping regardless.

The primary promotional tool of thier campaign after their release was touring. They still on their promo tour.

They were on MTV TRL yesterday, new single "Ride for me" produced by Brian Cox will be premiered next week on December 6th. Song is already achieving provisioned airplay on radio and will do its job.

They still have singles going into next year and they're looking into adding another season to satisfy the fans who bought the album and to grab the attention of new fans, the girls are progressing.

They just released a new joint for Christmas and its getting mad play in mall/radio "Home for Christmas".

Last week Danity Kane was certified platinum. Following Yung Joc's platinum plaque. Cassie and Puff are closing in on Gold....

For real DK is a retail phenomenom, Puff was mad their first week they was selling out and they didnt have enough product out in stores and they still beat out Outkast for the #1 spot selling more than 250K.

As for Puff's marketing plan his singles will be running till September 2007. He's going for consistent sales for more than 6-10 months straight, nothing lower than 10K week. Press Play has moved approx 400K so far, and has not sold less than 30K a week so he's doing alright, in fact this week his sales are up and he jumped up selling 50K.

"Tell Me" is still rising, and video is shot with Keisha Cole for "Last Night" should premiere around end of January, right in time for Valentine's buzz in Febuary. "Diddy Rock" will be after that to set the spring time on fire!

They in the entertainment biz, and they doing alright.

Everyone wants to get an artist who has a fanbase of over 1,000,000 people and put out their sophmore release.

Well see how well they do, they're innovative, voices sound mature and are getting good. Performance wise they do their thing.

what's really good?

This has been an excellent year! For Badboy and for myself, music wise/money wise.

Biggie started it all off with Duets, over 1.2 sold.
Danity Kane, Yung Joc certified platinum.
Diddy and Cassie closing in on Gold plaques....Diddy continues his pace he'll be plat.

Not to mention the impact music wise with singles blowing up on billboard charts/radio/television. Excellent releases.

Badboy hasnt taken any L's this year.....and its going to continue into 07'

Good lookin out on the info. When is Cheri Dennis dropping? She had that banger of a single, and had remixes with Jim Jones, Yung Joc, Juelz, and Black Rob on it. Cassie came out of nowhere and all of a sudden Cheri wasn't out.

I'm not much into R&B but Danity Kane's album is a good album. It's complete, has something for everybody, and the beats are all hot. If they're platinum now they should get to double platinum after two more singles.

Danity Kane was certified platinum on 11/20.

Cassie's over 300K now. They're in talk about releasing a third single- "Call u out" featuring Yung Joc.

Doing great in the US, one of Badboy Worldwide's goals was to achieve international success especially with Danity Kane and Cassie.

Ryan Leslie and Cassie just came back from a promo tour in Japan and Germany. DK is almost done their tour and the US and will be joining Puff on his European tour in March 2007.

Badboy's non-US markets are profitable instead of labels or acts who dont have the plans to promote internationally and exclusively to the U S

Badboy is getting that success in the US and putting initative to get involved in entertainment globally.

LOL Funny

You actually think that the years Puff was spending in Europe he was just partying? Cmon man, dude was researching markets. When he was in St. Tropez, Ibiza, Spain, Germany, France he wasnt just going to those crazy all night raves with extacy and techno music. He was planning to take his label global.

People dont think about that because of lifestyles. Now Badboy is taking advantage. They're now Bad Boy World Wide Entertainment, an empire.

You'll eat your words when Press Play goes Gold, and I'll make sure to remind you, as its close to 400K and moving 50 a week.

Cassie had one of the biggest songs of the year. Her singles are consistent.

You say "I know you see it" wasnt big, thats wrong.

gold is a good look for ANYBODY. sohh-one-mill-a-week-or-you-flopped.com got u fooled. a blind man can see what the type year BB is having. not going global? you truly think Mase, Diddy, BIG, etc ain't do gangbusters overseas? I Know You See It was a moderate success? Where were you this summer? Outside of a few select people, a Top 10 single material is very hard to come by, especially by a brand new artist.

Musiq may be paid to dikkride, but about 50% of what he says makes sense. countering his shyt with blind reverse rhetoric don't work either. label's don't just pull this type of success out of their azz

Puff, Big and Mase did do well over sees back in the 90's. With the state of the evolving music industry its almost a must to not only promote your sh*t in the US. With technology advancements, strategically targeting global markets is how you adapt to this changing industry.....

Think about it? Why limit yourself to the US, when you can sell to the World!

Bad Boy is the one of the few labels who are doing that.
