There's another thread on this here (http://forums.sohh.com/showthread.php?t=760694). What else besides Kind of Blue have you listened to?
If you really like Kind of Blue, try Miles Smiles, My Funny Valentine, Milestones, Ascenseur pour l'échafaud and Round About Midnight. This will give you a good taste of what Miles was doing with small bands between 1955 and 1966. (Miles Smiles is my favorite.)
Also try Bill Evans' Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby--both sound a lot like Kind of Blue. (Evans actually came up with many of the most important ideas realized on that album and plays piano on it.) There's also Coltrane's My Favorite Things, Giant Steps, and Crescent.
Open-mindedness will keep the elitism at bay... and increase your enjoyment of the music.
