...is it a good idea to go to the gym again, or take a days break?
my ass and my thighs are KILLING me right now, but I really wanna go to the gym again today so I can keep up the good work I've been doing.

The general advice is to wait a day so your muscles can repair. Stretch and work another part of your body instead.
I'm feeling you tho LoL my booty is KILLING me from a 6-mile hike I did on Saturday (3 miles uphill thankyouverymuch). I took Sunday off and am still debating about going jogging today. Dont know why the hell I wore heels, every time I go up stairs I want to cry :dry:
Really depends on the muscle group; I hope your not planning on working the same group again in the same week if your THAT sore. You can work upper-body and do exercises that don't hit your legs as a secondary muscle group, but don't try to over-do it. The last thing you want to do is over-train.

and no, I'm not planning on working my legs/booty again, but I just want to do some cardio at least.

Is this your first day back after a long layoff?
If you are really really sore, I would take the extra day off. But chances are you will be more sore the 2nd day after the workout due to deep tissue recovery.
what kinda workouts did you do?

The scientific name for that is DOMS(delayed onset muscular soreness), howerver you should go and workout. Of course, do exercises that hit other body parts(like upper body), like Big H mentioned. and to follow up a bit on what Shaolin said, don't wait for too long thinking it will be better for recovery. If you want just give it a day or two and then hit the gym with high intensity.
Plus you want to go in the gym and do cardio for the follow up? most cardio exercises require leg/glutes usage. If you do choose to do cardio, go very light, in other words take it easy. And don't spend more than 25 mins on it.

I ended up waiting it out yesterday, and then I went today and just did 40 mins. of cardio because my bum was still a LITTLE sore.
them squats KILLED me, for real.
