Man this is totally different than what I thought. I thought Uniform was going to be a epic song from the live version I heard but they totally ruined it. This whole album is pretty bad to me. In fact if I would of never heard Silent Alarm before this I wouldn't give them a chance. One of my favorite bands goes down the drain! :thumbsdow

All the energy that made the first album great is gone.

I like it quite a bit.

All of the songs I really liked off of Silent Alarm were more upbeat and catchy then whats on here (Price Of Gas, Banquet, Helicopter, Positive Tension). Might get better with repeated listenings, but as of right now I'm pretty let down.

That was definitely something that I was expecting based on some of the interviews following the first record. Based on what I read it seemed that they felt a conscious effort had to be made for them to distance themselves from all the other post-punk/Gang of Four-influenced bands.

I can't blame 'em I don't know if I'd like to be grouped with The Killers, The Bravery, She Wants Revenge, etc. smh @ them going on tour with Panic! At the Disco.

. smh @ them going on tour with Panic! At the Disco.

Its bad enough they are on tour with them, but opening for them? That is beyond lame.

Well, at least that'll give folks a chance to leave. I just keep telling myself that their label pressured 'em to do it.

They might of been part of the "gang of four-influenced bands" but they did it better than any of them. Will let this album settle for a few days and give another listen though. When is the actual release date cause this does not sound like a mastered version?

Silent Alarm wasn't that great either IMO, it fell off after the first few songs. I never understood the hype for this band.

I thought Silent Alarm was a breathtakingly beautiful album. Aside from the upbeat tracks like "Like Eating Glass," "Helicopter," and "Banquet," the songs that got me thinking that this was more than just an ordinary album (and Bloc Party more than an ordinary band) were "Blue Light," "So Here We Are," "Plans," and "This Modern Love." Especially "Blue Light" and "This Modern Love," what kind of mind do you have to have and how do you have to see the world to be able to write those songs? I want to become a writer and hearing songs like these is inspiring because it's how I see what art is; capture everything about a moment in your life in four minutes and then let it go as if nothing had happened. It's an album that I listen to driving around aimlessly on a Tuesday night. I haven't listened to this album enough to get a good idea of what's happening, but I really think that Bloc Party is one of those bands that, while they might not save rock n roll, they can be the soundtrack to those small moments in everyone's life.

"Kreuzberg" on this new album is that kind of song.

I skimmed through it last nite real quick, it sounds like it could be really good but the quality is ehh.

I've listened through it a few times, I personally think it sounds excellent.

I'm pleased they haven't strayed too far which is what I was expecting given some of the interviews.

Sort of agree about the lack of songs like Positive Tension though. would have been nice. there are bits, like Song For Clay, but not as much as perhaps hoped.

So I gave the album another listen and it has actually grown on me. I first went in thinking I was going to get another Silent Alarm but this album is still pretty good. Still kind of saddened that there aren't as many energetic songs but I can live with it. Still need a better quality version of the songs to give a real rating though.

Since when does good=amazing? I'm not trying to pick apart all the flaws about it or anything, but its definitely not an amazing album, to me at least.

I lost so much respect for them when I saw them in concert 2 years ago. They were terrible live. I couldn't believe it. I actually haven't heard their new stuff yet, but I've been told it's not very good.

i remember the first few songs i heard from them post silent alarm (the present, little thoughts, the answer) i couldnt remember any band that could just pump out catchy yet substantial songs like bloc party.

that being said my fav songs on silent alarm were compliments and plans, but they took some time to grow on me. this album is definately growing on me with each repeated listening.
