This album is so crazy. I remember I first got it as a gift from my uncle a long time ago and the only track I liked was Black Steel. This was before I even really like Hip Hop and before I knew that Black Steel was a cover of Public Enemy. It took me many years to really appreciate what Maxinquaye had to offer. I think a healthy appreciation of Hip Hop defnitely helps. The production is so amazing and almost RZA-esque.

incredible album, but to me Nearly God & Pre-Millenium Tension are the highlights of Tricky's career. unfortunately, everything from 1998 onwards should be avoided

I remember a friend of mine gave me his copy of Maxinquaye because he hated it. I listened and more or less dug it. Not long after that I caught the "Christiansands" video after coming home late one night... and I was glued. I picked up Nearly God and Pre-Millenium Tension the next day, I think.

Tricky has pretty much fallen off since then though. Angels with Dirty Faces was okay, but it's been downhill from there....

It's really too bad, dude had mad potential to go the bjork route with his music (just experiment endlessly) but he went for the dollars

I've had this album for awhile and have yet to listen to it. I think I will now. What's another album of his to check out.
