if so, how do you make yours? what "extras" do you throw in to make it different or kick it up a notch (yeah i said it, it was wack, so what?)

i've been making killer hummus lately and wanna know what other people do to make their own... personally i could LIVE off of the stuff.. and from what i've seen, people tend to either really love it or despise it.

I was just eating (pre-bought) hummos and vegetables last night, I love that ish too! That one had garlic and lemon added, but I dont think it needs too much doctoring up when it is fresh. I've made it from a mix but not from scratch.

Would you be willing to post your recipe? My coworker has a killer one, but he wont share

elle - here's my recipe.

1 can drained/rinsed chickpeas
2 cloves fresh garlic
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp tahini
1/3 cup water
alot of salt and pepper

blend for a couple minutes in a blender or mixer until pasty.

i've made variations involving extra garlic, sundried tomatoes, chipotle relish, chili peppers, and green onions.. all of which have turned out good, although the extra garlic batch was TOO much.. my roommate loved it though.

Here is a tip, brush some olive oil on your pita bread, put the bread in your foreman grill and put the hummus on it.

majority of the time I make my own...sometimes I buy store bought varieties which I've found can be hit or miss...favorite add-ins are artichoke hearts & black olives

black olive is the best, or roasted red pepper. but people make that stuff? i thought that it grew on trees in greece or something. i can't make a cheese sandwich for myself. i just buy athenos.

Same goes for making falafel. Gotta soak for 8 hours rather than using canned chickpeas.

lol the dog definitely looks happy. Maybe I need to diversity my foods a bit cause I boil or bake damn near eveything.

living in the sparkling metropolis that is Indianapolis Indiana I find that hard to believe

errm, tabouli is a Lebanese dish. pseud-salad mostly made up of mostly of chopped parsley, mint, diced tomato and onion, lots of lemon juice, weat grain and the blood of innocent Israelis. with a side of skewered lamb tis truly heaven on earth

if any of u are in DC, stop by Quik Pita - it's one of those really small, hole in the wall type places but they make the best pita wraps in the city. it's off M street in georgetown. their hummus is also very very good, and the prices are very reasonable.

just throw in whatever you like...

i dont really measure out the recipes (im that good) but ill use:

can of chick peas (save some of the liquid)
tahini
cumin (dont sleep)
salt/pepper
chives/parsley
couple cloves of garlic
red onion (or yellow if you like the stronger flavor)
sundried tomatoes (i skip this sometimes cause you should steep them)
red pepper (fresh or fire roasted in the jar)
sesame seeds
splash of lemon juice
sesame/olive oil (if needed)

i use whatever i got laying around... carrot isnt bad either. just throw in whatever vegetables you got in the fridge
