It was after some weightlifting. I used to box but am a little rusty from what he told me. I was really just trying to work on defense. He would throw a flurry of punches while showing me different ways to block them (since usually I try to slip the punches). I got tagged a couple of times, but it didn't bother me. Only place I got hit the most was the midsection, but I always left that open (I shouldn't so much anymore, my abs aren't as strong as they used to be and I don't tighten up out of habit anymore).
I also practiced blocking knees and throws/slams. He gave me some real good feedback, saying that the average guy wouldn't beat me, it would take someone who knew what they were doing. He also told me that since i'm strong in the lower body, quick, and low to the ground that it would be hard for me to get on the ground (which is his speciallty). He said that I goit the natural ability and instincts, that if I was to train i'd be pretty serious. I'm thinking about it
so now, I'm gonna start sparring with him about 3 times a week. I had to get used to being on my toes, because I got out of that habit also. I didn't go all out in my punches and he did once in while, but in my mind I can't do that to a friend or when sparring unless it's serious. He showed me some good takedowns and throws and how to counter them. Thats wassup. I told him to come at me hard, it's the only way i'll get better. I think he brought about 60% of what he had at the most, which is good. As time progresses, I know we'll go all out one day and I might end up training with him and his instructor at their gym. Right now, it's a campus thing. I'm shaking a little rust off though. I was bouncing straight for about 10 minutes at a time last night. Got to get my handspeed and power back though. He also said I was thinking too much
It's a great workout though. I was huffing and puffing after sparring for about 5 minutes straight.
