****EXCLUSIVE****
September 6. Beyonce's latest album B Day has been plagued with problems. It's received terrible reviews from industry experts, and radio stations have been less than excited about her first two singles. Now that the album is in stores, the public seems to have weighed in. MediaTakeOut.com got an exclusive peak at the early Soundscan numbers and it's official - the album has flopped!
B Day is projected to sell 205,000 albums in the first week - an amazingly low number for an artist of Beyonce's caliber. To get perspective on how much of a failure that this is, her album will finish 17th in first-week sales for the year. That means that Danity Kane, Ne-Yo, and Busta Rhymes all sold more albums in their first week than Beyonce is expected to.
One possible reason for Beyonce's poor album sales, is the album is widely available for free on the internet. Last week, dozens of websites popped up offering downloads of the album for free. And when MediaTakeOut.com visited a popular file sharing site yesterday, we found more than 1000 users that were willing to "share" the B Day album, free of charge.
And the effect of the internet leaks was seen yesterday on BET's 106 & Park. During the show, Beyonce played "brand new" tracks from her album to the largely teenage audience. But the audience shocked the sexy songstress by singing the songs word-for-word. Beyonce, surprised by the audience's knowledge, turned to host Terrence J and said, "how do they already know the words." Terrence J looked smugly at the bootylicious diva and replied, "it looks like they've been on the internet."

but shes in the music industry, where you have peole on commercials saying dont download. Im surprised that she wouldnt know that her album has been leaked. I dont think its the net 100%, her 2 singles are ehh, and peeps get tired of someone and they move on..ask paris hilton..youd have thought with all the exposure she gets shed have done way better than what she sold, but most people are tired of her, its the media that makes it look like shes in demand

she seemed sincere when she asked that lame "how do they know the words"you would be surprised at how sheltered superstars are from the real world.106 n Park made it seem like it was the greatest day on earth for Music. All the Hype for a flop.205 is a flop she had busta type promotion

I won't believe it until I see some offical numbers but if it's true this could be the biggest flop since waterworld (hope I didn't lose ya'll on that one) but Latoya album did like 160K first week so if Bee only do like 40K more than her considering how much more of a high profile artist she is Bee, Matthew Knowles & Jay Lost!!! i agree that that would be a flop, b/c her marketing game is crazy for this album. those #'s are not final and you cant take everything mediatakeout says seriously. so all we can do is wait until next week when soundscan comes out....1

I refuse to believe anything mediatakeout says(remember they reported that Outkast split and Kast called their asses out). I do believe the numbers but they always try to put a spin to shyt thats simply not true like Beyonce asking how they knew the song already. Come on they just added that bullshyt to their article. Every artists knows their shyt is gonna get bootlegged to the internet.

She supposedly did the entire album in two weeks. For whatever reason she thinks this is a good thing for an R&B artist. I kinda knew the LP would weak but I like that "Upgrade You" track w/ Jay. He murders that beat.
How is 200k is a flop?
its not a flop but come on Beyonce is a bigger star than usher and that nygga did 1.1 mil shes putting up Ne-yo numbers

first of all i dont think beyonce doing 200k first week is a flop. so long as its a top 3 album that first week its ok. we album might sell steady throughout the year like chamillionaire's  . might.
2nd im not a b fan, but its like there's someone trying to jeopardize her career sending all this negative reviews about her album.

Beyonce fell off, plain and simple. 3 years ago the whole world was talking about her. Now she's not half as good-looking as she was, her new songs are not even bearable and she appears to have become stupider than before. FLOP!

Given the state the industry is in, it isn't a complete flop. But as widely known as she is, as much airplay her songs get (despite how corny they are), and as much money as I can guessimate to create and promote the album, this is probably downright terrible.
You have to look at music sales within the popularity and budget of an album. If this were a live album, an acoustic album, a remix album 205 woulda been cool, but this is or was rather probably the biggest record of the year up until this point, 205 is not a good look.

BEYONCE GOES BEYOND, ALBUM LOOKS TO SOAR PAST 600K
New Columbia Record a Slam Dunk at #1, Audioslave #2
September 6, 2006
Steve Barnett’s Team Columbia are hitting their groove in the nick of time.
With new Sony Music chief Rob Stringer in the building (and unlike some colleagues, not taking credit for the surge), the suddenly mean machine on Madison is kicking into gear, following up this week’s chart-topping Bob Dylan album with what looks like another huge album on deck in Beyonce’s B’Day, which is on target to soar past 600k and could approach 650k, based on first-day sales reports from our crack retail reporters around this great country of ours.
All that and a $1 million 1959 Rolls Royce from bf Jay-Z makes for a pretty nifty birthday, if you ask us

biggest record of the year? hhheeell no. that Fergie one even doing better than hers on the charts. Fergie's was released after hers and reached #1.
the song with jay is definately struggling... i havent heard the others. i know she doesnt get no club play here at all. maybe at the college clubs.
i agree with Fallback's post; i dont see her losing. jay's her man, her dad is the suge of the r&b world. no way she's losing. myself i know ill never listen to this album; just like the other one.

She is getting airplay out here in the bay and was promoting her album yesterday on the local radio station KMEL, a big B fan I'm not but I aint feeling too many of the others either. I must admit I do like that song to the Left to the Left irreplaceable cool song and the cat song lol, get yo money B fukk the haters. Latoya cool tool, it does seem like a lot of hate being thrown their way though. The Queen Mary busted out 731k in one week so maybe B can catch up who knows these things?
I like that "Upgrade You" track w/ Jay. He murders that beat.Who produced that?

BEYONCE set to do over 600k
Steve Barnett’s Team Columbia are hitting their groove in the nick of time.

The week’s other big album, Audioslave’s Revelations (Epic/Interscope) appears pretty good in a down market for rock, with a first-week total estimated between 130-140k. Sanctuary Music Group’s metal perennials Iron Maiden is up next with 60k, give or take a screaming guitar solo and a medieval torture device.
Meanwhile, back to reality. As we head into the prime selling season, the industry was down between 1-2% last week, down more than 10% from same week last year and now down more than 5.5% to year-to-date.

What's even more amazing than her album sales was that despite the fact that the REAL link from a reliable source being posted THREE TIMES, people are still replying about her only selling 200k from a proven unreliable website.........

This is what I found frightening. A more reliable link saying she moved 600k+ was posted numerous times and for a minute no one even acknowledged it. This is why I hate message boards and SOHH at times. What's the point of just reading the thread title and posting without ACTUALLY reading the posts in the thread?
