emo
emo
All that stuff isn't emo. I'm tired of pointing that out so I won't get into it any further.
But creative/chaotic/energetic stuff is out there if you do a little searching. Bad Brains was a one shot deal though. I don't think there are many bands that can match 'em.
Check out Lightning Bolt, Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, Japanther, etc.

wow...
bad brains> pennywise x 10^100.
bad brains, DRI, suicidal tendencies etc. were hardcore punk.
Real punk I guess would be a band like ramones. Simple chords, simple melodies, but high on style and youthul vigor.

converge's Jane doe is probably one of the best rock album of the last 5 years IMHO.
It's extreme noise rock... it's all based on preferece.
I like hardcore and thrash metal because they are extremely technical art forms and very aggressive. The vocals and lyrics really don't mean anything to me.
It's almost like listening to jazz music. The best part of jazz is the improve/jam sessions.
IMHO I've always seen rock as a childish genre of music to listen to, don't get me wrong I like some rock bands but this is what I see for the most of it:
- A new hairstyle, fashion trend being invented every 3 years or so.
- The rock fans usually jump from one sub-genre to another; when I was at school kids liked slipknot and papa roach, that stuff gets laughed at now and emo is the new "cool"
- All this "I am the lord of darkness" bollocks most of the classic rock artists portray makes me feel sorry to be alive, these are grown men obsessed with vampire bats, death and blood lyrics.
- Too many sub-genres, I'm an adult and listen to mainly one genre of music, music doesn't need to be branched out & "different" to be creative
- Most bands today don't know how to play instruments properly, making your fingers almost bleed from playing guitar isnt music IMO.
- Most typical rock has music louder than the vocals, I ask rock fans if they understand it and they say yeh because I looked up the lyrics :/ this shouldnt be an issue, I should be able to hear the lyrics first time around.
- The whole "Im crazy wooo" personality of most rock acts and rock fans is enough to make me vomit, and put me off ever getting into rock music at all.

if anything is childish, it's hip-hop.
C'mon. hyphy, crunk, snap, It's always some new dance fashion trend and it changes every 6 months.
The thing that truely made hip-hop unique was it's use of chopped samples and it's ability to absorb any sound (new or old).
Now kids just want to hear overly and purposely simplistic I-can-press-three-keys Korg triton riffs, which is a keyboard I hate with a passion by the way, backed up recycled 808 drum loops. All while the emcee says things like "let me skeet on the walls", "girl shake that laffy taffy". The lyrics in most hip-hop songs are BEYOND childish.
And now the underground scene is full of a bunch of whiney little ****** white kids, who suck the dicks of anticon and sole (balding white dude)
I think i'm completely done with rap/hip-hop. I just recently discovered Three 6 mafias old and less recent material, and I was amazed by the creativity they displayed in their production. They have some really off the wall sampling and completely unique drum patterns. Other than them I think I wont be listening to rap/hip-hop anymore. it's nothing but cookie cutter manufactured crap... Fukking all of it is...whether mainstream or not.
I think it's a good thing though. Because I've been filling the void that hip-hop left with completely mind-blowing music like 70's fussion jazz, late 60's and early 70's funk, 80's hardcore punk, Hardcore, thrash metal, classic jazz, progressive jazz, and math-rock. I feel like i'm discovering a whole new world even though most of it is really old shyt.

punk rock is very annoying
How is The Darkness doing in the UK? I read in some Spin article that "the US scene won't get them" because they have an ingredient of comedy/satire in their music which is unheard of in the US.
But props to anti white for the metal knowledge. I got turned on to deeply metal stuff like a year ago.
what do u think of Masticon (i think that's their name)?
i'm not sure if they're relative, though.

It's a lot more than that. I listen to it when I'm studying or writing papers.

Their first album was great, classic style rock music & very catchy at the same time. Justin has a great voice which is unheard of in most modern rock, and the band has a certain late 80s feel to it. They sold alot of records and got very popular with their first album, though their second album I wasnt enjoying at all.

Of course hip hop is childish, that's why I dont listen to it anymore, well, not the modern stuff anyway. I'm always keeping updated on common, roots & mos etc but thats it for hip hop. I've been into my funk, acid jazz, jazz, soul & dance for the past couple of years. I always take time out every week to listen to a new band/artist to keep my mind open. I listen to quite abit of foreign & local hip hop also, some of it's alot similar to the styles of tribe, mobb deep and a few others in terms of beats. It's always nice to check out other countries music so I've upped a track for you, this took ages because of my crappy upload speed so you better make sure you listen to it.

Y'all gotta get off this "I hate emo" sh!t. You sound as gay as the bands you're calling gay. Granted most of it sucks but if you look at any music most of it sucks, that's just how it is.
Now this post is not to defend emo, it's to really say that if you're looking at rock music these days and saying it sucks, you're really not looking hard enough. Rock music is better than it has been in a very long time. From just great bands like Death From Above 1979, The Mars Volta, Blood Brothers, Minus the Bear, and even Bloc Party to great metal like Mastodon, Isis, Lamb of God, and Dillinger Escap Plan to new punk like Rise Against, Underoath, and even AFI there's a lot of good music out there. Sh!t there aren't even enough "emo" bands to come close to outshining all these bands.

Pretty much on point. People just like to complain about stuff. Like any other genre of music you have to search a bit to find interesting stuff.

c/s a great post.
I got tired of saying "this sucks" four years ago. The underground hip-hop scene vs. mainstream was my stage to posture. It gets tiring, plus i ran into someone who was into like 50 bands i didn't know of that were f*cking mind blowing, and he was happy as a clam everyday listening. It really made me and my attitude feel f*cking irrelevent.
Horrible point in my life, the sting was unbelievable.

I know exactly where thread starter is coming from
These Emo fags ruined everything
The mid80's had Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today, Warzone, Bad Brains etc. (the NYC Hardcore scene)
Then in the 90's you had Earth Crisis, Snapcase, Abinandha, Mad ball, Sick of it all etc
Now, you got drag queens with make up signing about depression.
Happily, The Path of Resistance is making a comeback and bringin that raw sh!t again

Hopefully these fags will get a clue...

its very annoying to hear people say "emo sucks" when they clearly are only saying this because it sounds cool.
there's a ridiculous amount of good music being made right now. it really takes openness and a little bit of searching.

I don't know about you but:
Lyrics have to matter. I focus on the instruments when first hearing an extreme/loud ass rock song, but I eventually look up the lyrics if I can't make them out on my own. If the lyrics don't do it for me, I tend to forget about the track unless the instruments are REALLY well done. But I do know what you're saying though.
I don't find pits so interesting or fun anymore. It's takes away from the live performance. Takes the focus away from the artists. Also, their isn't much real dancing. Like with the kick/punch pits, half of us look dumb cause we are a) weak b) not flexible c) have no rhytmn with anything. Then people two-step all wrong. And some of the push/Junior pits are whatever. Circle pits stil llook good though. Excessive Stage divign seems pointless and it annoys me. Then again I haven't been to a metal, punk, or hard rock show in over two years, so I can't really tell how I would react. I'm just saying, last time I was at a show, I regretted spending so much time doing that crayz shyt and not cheking out the band.
It's whatever ...
