If so, what do you do and how long have you been into it?
I just took my 1st brazilian ju-jitsu class today. that was a good workout. martial arts is always something i wanted to get into but never had the time. plus i'm tired of going to the gym, i figure this will be a good way to get my motivation back.

Man, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu is one of the main martial arts that interests me. What kind of stuff did you learn first?

Have been doing Judo for about 8 to 9 years now, Have competed alot in the past(4 years ago). But have not been competing for the last 3 years. Just doing judo very lightly now. Its fun though, throwing and grappling(submissions and pins) its really awesome.

I've been doing Tai-chi since early May and it's a GREAT workout. It's not only great for the body but it's great for the mind as well. I've learned so much from taking Tai-chi and I seriously underestimated the physical and mental benefits that I would gain from doing it.

1st thing i did was learn how to fall. after about 10 mins of that we went into defensive manuevers. how flip an opponent over if he's on top of you, how to stay on top if opponent tries to buck you off, and if you're being choked, how to get out of it and go on the offensive. when doing the practice strikes we had to keep our guard up risk being accidentally hit for real.
it was way different from what i was expecting. i thought it would be like on tv where the instructor is out in front and everyone is following along to his cadence. he would show us a move and then we would practice on each other. i was the only new person in there, so they slowed down for my benefit.
class was only about an hour and maybe 10 mins but it was fun and a good workout.
I wanted to do Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and probably get into some MMA. I got a homeboy who does all that and fights in matches and sh*t. Been doing it about 8 years (I should've started younger).
I Boxed a long time ago and used to do TKD as a kid. Now I'm studying Muay Thai on my own, but thats about it. I want to do BJJ because of the throwing and slamming moves, and to learn to get out of holds. I also wouldn't mind studying Wing Chun or JKD.

are you taking classes? how often do you do it? I'm pretty interested in tai-chi, as well as capoeira (no classes around me tho).

I'm taking classes and I do it twice a week. I tried capoeira in June (only a sample class) and it is AMAZING. I can't even explain it. It's a great workout and I love the movements. It is so unique. I definitely want to get into that but haven't really checked for classes yet. The only thing I'm not fond of is doing the circle/fight/combat sequence in the middle because I'm kind of shy. The instructor wanted everyone to do it because it's standard in a capoeira class for everyone to demonstrate what they've learned in the circle but luckily there wasn't enough time for my turn..lol!

because of my work schedule i may only be able to take this for a couple of months then i might be goin to the day shift. if that happens i'll start taking muay thai in the evening.
