Yes, its easy to hate on pfork and all their snobbery, but I really don't think this is all that bad of a choice. Always loved this song, and it has been the anchor of many a mixtapes. Lists always cause a ruckus around these parts, so how do yall feel about this number 1?

btw, off the top (not at the site) the top ten had:
"like a rolling stone" - Dylan
"a change is gonna come" - Sam Cooke (my GOAT song)
"a day in the life" - Jon, Paul, and them guys
"folsom prison blues" - Cash
"I want you back" - J5

and "satisfaction" was not on the list. nor was "respect".

it doesn't hold much weight to me seeing that most of the staff at pitchfork wasn't living in those times.

they explicitly acknowledged that very fact, and said the list was a compilation of their favorites. i think it still hold weight, that those are the songs that have transcended time and relate to those particular writers.

i was suprised not to see satisfaction. i personally always thought it didnt deserve the title of best song ever, but i thikn they left it off out of sheer pretensiousnes.

speaking of pitchfork... it gets alot of hate, but does anyone know of many better places to find out about good new music?

what'd you think about the list though?
metacritic is better. its much more objective because they compile music reviews (movies as well). www.metacritic.com

Pet Sounds is fucckin amazing. God Only Knows could easily be the best song of the 60's. Personally there's a few Beatles songs Id put ahead of it, as well as A Change Is Gonna Come, Gimme Shelter and Jimi's version of All Along the Watchtower.
