Aight.. so i'm a lil confused about the whole calorie intake thing and how I should proceed with my plan.. I'm drinking muscle milk before my workout and right after.. However @ 350 cals per serving i'm pushin 700 cals right there alone.. I thought that I should be doing no more than 1200 cals a day for my diet routine.. i'm trying to loose weight (30 pounds) and tone up. So how does this benefit me.

That only leaves me 500 cals to spare for the entire day. Damn near impossible if i'm supposed to be changing my food pattern too and eating 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. Hell I just lost 100 of my 500 leftover calories drinking my oj this morning.. had a bananna too.. i'm already feeling in the hole.

So is the purpose of this stuff to help build muscle, so i'll loose fat easier, and then won't even have to worry about the 1200 calorie thing for dieters..

so so so confused..

if it helps... i'm a chick and in need of direction

if you're trying to lose weight you should probably focus on that. after you've lost the weight then focus on building muscle. from what i understand to effectively build muscle you have to up your calorie intake something you really don't want to do if you're looking to cut calories and lose weight.

people do it in cycles called bulking and cutting.

First off, 1200 is too little if your just now starting to cut. You can't cut your calorie intake that much, that fast. Up the cals to 1,800-2,000 calories a day and see how that goes first.

As for the protein shake. Muscle Milk is not the best choice for protein when cutting. It is high in calories and has a substantial amount of fat and carbs for a protein shake. Its fine if you take it once a day as a meal replacement, but anything more than that is not needed.

Pick up Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey from any store or online. Its not only one of the cheapest ones, but probably the best all-round protein shake especially for dieting.

Calories and carbs. Myoplex is more of a meal replacement type protein shake. If you plan on using protein shakes only for pre/post workout nutrition, you don't need all of that. ON 100% is low fat and low carb with high protein. They have the highest ratio of protein per serving on the market.

So what would be a good shake for Meal Replacement?

MET-Rx meal replacement(strawberry or chocolate flavor) is pretty awesome, I use it a couple of times a day when Im bulkying. So that bumps my total daily meals to 8-10 when Im bulkying.

And thats pretty much what I use as far as meal replacements go, I also take whey protein(ON 100% golds standard) for pre and after workouts.

Eat smart, lift hard, and eat big and lift smart!!!!!!

MRP's will cost more than regular protein shakes, but Muscle Milk isn't TOO expensive. Either cop it online or get a Gold Card at GNC and buy it during the first week of every month, you get a discount on everything in the store.

Well what leads to weight loss is a calorie deficit. Drinking MRP's should not be your only source of calories and you should be sure to eat whole foods. MRP's help bridge that gap in calories and can be counted as one of your 6 meals. Once or twice a day is good, anything more and your wasting money.

Okay one more question...
How many days a week should you do a meal replacement shake?

How many calories do you intake daily?

1500-1700

HE SAID DAILY... NOT PER MEAL.

JUST KIDDING

I drink Muscle milk because I cant stand the taste of the others for too long. It's higher in calories but I take it with water or no fat milk. Still tastes great.

If you eat 5 meals, and if you evenly distribute the calories that would give you roughly 330 calories per meal. Obviously, some meals will exceed 500 - 550 calories and the smaller meals will be barely 150 - 200 calories. For your smaller meals (about 1-2 like BigH suggested) should complement your diet. If you are on a moderate protein, low carb, low fat diet, the snacks should follow suit. I would suggest snack bars - there satisfy just about any diet out there.

Also, as an alternative, buy berry's or bananas at a fruit stand, which is about 60-70% the price of the retail market. Nuts, soy beans will healthy fats, salads, etc, as an alternative. Travel with these types of snacks, and you'll be good. Two snacks per day is good enough - it is low in calories and cheap.

Lastly, take a multivitamin and multimineral daily. Since you are on a low-calorie diet, taking multis will give you the essential nutrients without the added calories. Make sure that your multi can be recognized by the body without a meal. if not, take it with a meal. Additionally, some require 2 or 3 a day, but choose the multis that require just one a day.

Yea I mean squeezing in a few shakes here and there will only help. Eating 5-6 times a day can become a hassle. Protein shakes simply make things easier by allowing you to consume more calories with less work. The problem arises when people start drinking too many shakes as opposed to whole foods. Your body is not stupid and it will respond to what your doing to it. Just remember to always eat real food as the main source of your calories.

Most definitely, if I did imply that should be the main source, then my bad.

The body rejects most of the nutrients in multivitamins and multiminerals as well as reject some of the nutrients in supplements when people do not eat whole foods as a main source. The only way to "fool" the body into recognizing it as a legitimate nutrient is to eat a lot of whole foods.

The idea with supplements are to supplement them in one's dieting regimen, and nothing more.

Before I started excercising I was eating 3 large meals a day and one snack..

Now i'm hungry all the time and i'm having to break it down.. i'm averaging 5 - 6 a day now..
Breakfast - egg whites, fruit, OJ, water
snack = green tea and fruit
lunch = sandwich or big salad and soup, chicken, water
snack = diet soda and water, baked chips or rice crispie treat
dinner = something I cooked at home, turkey burger, grilled chicken, salad, veggies
after dinner sack (sometimes) fruit or cereal with soy milk

and on my workout days i'll skip the snack after lunch and not have the dinner fruit, but have the muscle milk before working out and after.. This is good right?

I'm on my way to the gym today

Also i've got a motivational coach at my job.. I realized that in order to do this the right way i've got to reach out to those who look the way i'm trying to (fit and in shape) There's a weight lifting hispanic guy at my job with an amazing body. We talk about food, weights, and excersise all the time now.. He checks in on me looking for my gym bag on certain days of the week.. Like an accountability partner, until i can get into the "lifestyle" more naturally myself.. He's been great :king: .. Ya should have seen the happy look on his face when I told him I went to the krispy-creme breakfast party at my job Friday morning and only had the OJ.

I usually order the 10lb bag from massnutrition.com here in Florida. I usually get chocolate cuz it has less sodium, but Ill go with rocky road or cookies and cream next time.

Add oats to it if you wanna make it into a MRP rather than buying leanbody and them other MRPs if you wanna save some scratch.

I see EAS makes a muscle milk knockoff way cheaper also
