I'm kind of new to all of this and this forum is real cool, getting alot of good info off some of the past blogs. But anyway, I was wondering if a person is trying to lose big weight -me- (75 + lbs), could I do a keto for a extended period of time, like months, or stick to low calories. Or could you do a combo of both, maybe like 1200 to 1500 calories a day but follow the keto rules with the low calories (if this possible, I mean is this how people do it or do they just stick with one or the other?) Just not quite sure where to start, I know I'm ready to start, just need a little direction?? Also what is a realistic frame of time to actually lose this weight? When you do a keto, do you eat any carbs at all during the week or on a daily basis or do you only do carbs on the carb up days (hope I explained that right) and if it's daily, how many carbs daily OR if it's carb up days, how many carbs then? Since my main goal is to just get a h*ll of alot smaller, lose fat and weight, should I concentrate on lifting weights or just straight cardio or do I still need to do both? Any advice, big H, Khalid, Shaolin? yo, much "thanks" in advance..

Ok, first off if your really overweight Keto isn't best for you right now. Keto is reserved as one of those last resort tactics for people who already have lower body fats but need to cut that extra percentage or two. Hence, its not meant for long term use. While researchers can't completely call Keto harmful, there is proof that staying on it for extended periods can cause some ill side effects. Keto is still sort of a mystery to many experts, but there is substantial proof that backs its safety as well.

However, you have an advantage because if your overweight by a good amount, even dropping a few hundred calories a day will result in weight loss over time. Your not gonna want to drop to 1,500 or 1,600 calories a day one shot; its best to lower calories on a weekly basis so that your body doesn't go into starvation mode and starts hording fat and worst of all, destroying muscle tissue.

But before we get any further fill us in with your stats. Age, Weight, Height, activity factor, lifestyle, etc. And if possible give us a sample of what kinda stuff your currently eating.

Big H, thanks for the getback, ok, on the info, I'm 35 y/o, weigh 287, activity factor is moderant for right now but in September, it will be full on gym schedule, 5 days a week, (just finished my masters, so i have all this time on my hands and want to take big advantage of it now, also looking to make some healthy lifestyle changes), my height is 6.1, don't drink too much (social) and my diet was bad AND horrible towards the last few months of school, but now trying to clean it up big time now. eating twice a day, bigger meals, all the "don'ts". a few years back (5), I was in the gym regularly and I weighed 230, so I'm not totally foreign to it. I just started reading up on all the keto stuff and was intrigued, so I thought I'd ask. So my eating habits, some fruits from time to time, eggs and toast in the morning, a burger and fries for lunch and if I ate dinner, something small like yogurt or even chips. I hope this helps. ANY more questions you have, please ask and I'll respond, thanks again man...
