View Full Version : Let the Rhythem hit em is the best album Rakim dropped
I like every album he did with Eric B but this was is his most complete.
The production is incredible
His rhymes are are some of the best lyrical performances on wax
In the ghetto is one of the deepest songs in hip hop
His storytelling abilities on Mahogany.
This is the album from him I listen to the most

I agree. It's the album he became more well rounded in subject matter. My favorite is still Follow the Leader but Let The Rhythm Hit Em is Rakim's best overall while Paid In Full is his most successful. Paid In Full is a classic and VERRRRRRY influential but as an whole album Let the Rhythm is better overall.

"I Ain't No Joke," "Pain In Full," "Check out my Melody," Eric B is President," "I Got Soul," "Move the Crowd..." The list goes on. There were just too many hot joints on one album. Not to mention it was the first of its kind. Rakim is my favorite MC off all-time, but I gotta go with "Paid in Full."
folks sleeping on dont sweat the technique as his best album.....18th letter is underrated as well

dont sweat the technique was his attempt to cross over. No where near his best work. Paid in full his best full album

Paid in Full, definitely. Every single track is perfect, and every time you hear them it's like you're sipping some vintage wine or something (not that I like wine). It's really only a question of deciding which of those four classic albums are the best. There isn't too wide of a gap.

Yeah I agree...I was never hugely into Follow The Leader or Don't Sweat The Technique. The title track especially on here is just vicious. Ra at his peak.

Follow the Leader has always been my favorite, but Let the Rhthym Hit 'Em is soooooooo close. In a while I have a feeling it'll edge out Follow the Leader.
Paid in Full had the biggest impact, but not his best IMO.
I think Rakim considers The 18th Letter his best album, if memory serves...

... and i listen to them all, even the Ra solo joints. I never argue when it comes the greatest emcee of all time.
peep them all at: http://www.fatratradio.com
Most are in the mix 24-7; AND, I always play something by Rakim on the live show on Fridays.
we even got his joints from the Gunmen and Hoodlum soundtracks. that joint w/ jodey watley is itchin to get into the mix but may be a little too RnB for the Format???

Has that UMC's disc, it's actually one of the first five hip-hop cd's ilkid279 ever bought.
4 songs from it are in the rotation.
