No bullshiit, the title of the thread speaks for itself.. Both albums are classics, but CP is by far better than RTD...
*waits for the hate to arise in this thread*

No hate just general disagreement, ready to die is one the most cohesive and greatest debuts in rap ever, everything BIG did on this cd came so naturally and lyrically he was on some other sh*t, much love to pun though and that cd was classic no doubt

Ready to Die wins sentimentally but I agree with the thread. Capital Punishment is overall a better album.

Problem with this thread is that I feel like too much changed in music from 94 - 98 to really compare these two. Personally, I like Capital Punishment better. I actually prefer Life After death over Ready To Die a lot of the times. Guess it depends on your age and lifestyle. Finally, I think Pun came too hard (no homo) on those tracks to say Ready To Die is better lyrically.

I feel exactly what you saying... Music within those eight did go through some changes, cuz it's forever evolving... And another thing I agree with you on is that LAD > RTD for the most part...
Based on replay value...CP>R2D

I like LAD more than RTD too
He had better beats, better bravado and better stories. Perhaps the guest apperances on RTD are better though.

Man oh man. This is kind of like the batttle between hulk hogan and ultimate warrior in wrestlemania 6... you don't want either one to lose. I can't really pick a winner they are both equally sentimental to me.

I love both albums, but no way in hell is it better than Ready to Die.
Not lyrically, not replay vlaue, not production wise, it just doesn't have that vibe that Big's album did, IMO.
im puertorican and ima say this..it does have alotta sentimental value too me..but ready to die was by far an more important album then CP...cp might have been a bit of an upgrade lyricaly and production wise but no ready too die they would mos def be no CP...
man... well first of all... during the time when they were both around.. i would of much rather listen to pun before biggie...
just a personal choice
ready to die .. had top notch production and they spent alot more money making it and promoting it- per diddy..
but i think capital punishment is a much better al bum.. its more raw.. and pun was thirsty and raw... he just came correct on everything he spit..
biggie was more on some laid back type vibe.. cuz he was rollin with diddy.. and they were more about getting commercial success - bad boy that is...
IMO i agree with the thread starter

*drumroll*
Big painted a picture of his life with RTD...few albums are able to do that, let alone a debut

in my 20 yrs.. Ready 2 Die has gotten more spinz... know that album like the back of my hand
I don't play Capital Punishment as much..
so I'd have to go with Capital Punishment because its still kinda fresh since I don't listen to it like that
both great albums tho

Dream Shatterer is just as good as any song on Ready to Die, if not better, it's more difficult to do for a fat guy.

lol at page 2 .. Stay on topic ...
But it's not a black latin thing. It's a Biggie/Tupac thing vs. Pun/Big L if u know what I mean.

I honestly thought that Nas stans were the most pathetic type of posters on SOHH, but clearly the Pun stans have them beat. What the fukk? RTD is a classic album that changed the game, when it dropped most people in the industry C/S BIG as the G.O.A.T. And rightfully so, there wasn't one wack track, everything was hot.
Sh*t, that's probably the greatest album of all-time, when you factor in everything from lyrics/production/sales nothings fukking with it. CP was a dope album, and Pun's in my top 5, but better than RTD? Fukk outta here.

both are in my top 15, ready to die is in my top 3. Its probably even better tha illmatic. ready to die is lyrically on the same level, stories are 10 times more exiting, musically its better, biggies flow is better, beats are better, biggie shows much better emceeing skills, and as a lyricist he is better, capital punisment doesnt have songs like my b1tch, everyday struggle, warning and juicy. But he has strong wordplay and lyrical songs like beware and twinz but mostly he only kicks one verse on the best songs.
