If you want a country-type sound get Cold Roses, its much better than Gold, bought Gold is a great album as well.
If you want a more alt-rock sound: get Love Is Hell, my fave album by him.
I have all his solo albums, they're all great in there own way.

"meh" is the perfect word to describe him. not really horrible, but nothing prolific or overly great about him, to me at least.

prolific doesn't lie withikn quality, but output. dude is definately prolific considering how long hes been around as a solo artist.
