no carbs, no sugar.

i went from 240 to 222 in less than 3 weeks without working out. After the second week I started to impliment a light total body work out routine while I was still doing the adkins the burn more fat. a week later im down to 217. once i get to 210 im gonna come off the adkins and focus on building muscle. i want to add about 10 - 15 lbs of muscle by the end of the year. the hardest part about the adkins is the first 2 days. you literally go threw withdrawls like dope fiends and sh1t. but its worth it.

Not to be a downer. But the atkins diet is not as good as advertised for the following reasons:

1. Atkins diet is just one of the fad diets that focus on simple shortcuts into getting into shape. For the lazy especially. Most of you probably do not know this, but there are well over 30,000 diets reported to the FDA. If there was a miraculous diet out there, do you actually think 30,000 diets would have spawned making magic promises. I don't think so.

2. The definition of someone who is in good shape in my opinion is simply someone who, first and foremost, is well conditioned meaning their cardiorespiratory system (i.e. lungs, heart, etc) are in tip-top shape. Someone who can run at a relatively high heart-rate and last. The atkins diet does not focus on that. And eating a carb-deprived diet will create a lack of glycogen and a lack of energy to improve the respiratory system.

3. Any diet that limits carbohydrate causes the body to rely on fat or muscle for energy, and may cause dehydration. When our body breaks down stored fat to supply energy, it creates a by-product called ketones. These by-products suppress appetite, yet they also cause fatigue and nausea.

4. This diet is not for everyone. Anyone with diabetes, heart, or kidney problems should not follow a diet that promotes the formation of ketones, including the Atkins plan. Eating unlimited amounts of fat, especially, saturated fat found in meat products, can lead to an increased risk of heart disease.

And lastly, someone can eat chips everyday of the week and still lose plenty of weight. So, frankly, I am not impressed. I would be impressed if someone told me they went from a 12-minute mile to an 8-minute mile in 10 weeks. Or they lost 8 pounds of fat when they have a thyroid problem. Losing weight off the atkins diet does not impress me. I am not disrespecting you, if you want to lose fat and gain muscle, and intake all the essential nutrients necessary for better health, and improve the respiratory system, etc - you need to do better.

I feel one diet is as good as the next if it produces the desired results with your health being ok. I dont really like the diet nazi's that feel there is only one way to do things. some people treat diets like religions. the thing about nutritionists is that you could find 12 with twelve different opinions on the same topic which tells me that nutrition is a field that really isn't that well understood.

i've done regular diets and low carb, low carb isnt that much easier or lazier its just different. takes off more fat initially and not just water weight. harder to build muscle with low carb though, it eats mass just as well as fat.

bodybuilders been usin low carb since the 40's to cut after they've built mass thats it's best use in my opinion.

Atkins is feasible for the average person who is not physically active or trains. I have seen plenty of easy going folks that have had success on Atkins, but for cats like me that train and lift hard, low carb just ain't gonna cut it for TOO long. We have to turn to alternative means of dieting to reach that lower bodyfat.

Even Keto diets have Carb-ups because its necessary to restore Glycogen levels in the muscle to fuel the upcoming week's workouts.

Carbs are GOOD.... just a matter of what type you consume, and how much.

whats ur diet?

I use Keto when i cut because it has shown me results. For maintenance I stick to the 40/40/20 diet (40% Protein, 40% Carbs, 20% Fat). I have been able to lose fat in the past on the 40/40/20 diet, but it just takes longer. Keto has been able to give me the lowest bodyfats so far, and thats why I endorse the diet.

Maybe I should have been more detailed in what I did. I eliminated sugar and stayed away from junk food, bread, pastas and sugary drinks. I DRANK A LOT OF WATER DAILY (about 8-9 glasses worth.) After the first week I started lifting weights, not going hard or anything but just enough to get a solid burn. I ate a lot of fish chicken and cabbage. I have about 7 more pounds before i get to 210 (however I want to get to like 208 by next friday) once I hit that im going to start taking creatine/whey protein as well as SLOWLY increase my carb intake (as in foods with carbs). I also started running as well. so the adkins IN ADDITION TO EXERSISE, help me loose the weight. I'm already use to lifting weights again so when i start training harder the transition wont be as painful. The adkins also made it easier for me to run because I wasn't as heavy. I use to do this in the military so I know what I'm doining AND IT WORKS. You can't just diet and not exersise and expect to loose weight and keep it off. and you can't diet loose weight and go back to what you were eating before and expect to see lasting results (just ask oprah)

With the Atkin's diet you're losing muscle as well as fat. Excercising without Carbs and Fat is ridiculous.

The Atkin's diet is fine if you're a female, but if you only do the Atkin's diet(I don't care if you're running. You need to build muscle too, running wont build muscle).

Just eat right and excercise.

-Proceeds to eat tons of carbs and protein.-
