"How to Read a Book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671212095/002-7696706-5657637?v=glance&n=283155)" - written by the cheif editor of Encyclopedia Britanica in the 60s.. Classic.. Check out his list of top 100 books to read in the back of that too, it contains gems like Marcus Aralias's "Meditations (http://classics.mit.edu/Antoninus/meditations.html)"..
Im a huge fan of Milan Kundera, and I ALWAYS recommend Immortality to all of my friends. My favourite book, and I get something different from it each time!

Other than that, One Hundred Years of Solitude, probably fuelled my determination to write. I read it about 5 years ago or so, and I've never read a writer who expresses him/herself as well as the author.
