View Full Version : Why I write....

Midnite

I write to express who I am,
i write to explain where I stand,
i write to ease the rumbles of my mind,
i write to quickly pass the time,
i write to honor true masters,
i write to stave off imminent disaster,
cause when I stop writing,
when i encounter that perilous block,
my whole life grows static, less exciting,
and that block builds non-stop,
tetris like, they begin to grow faster,
and I lose that will to write,
cause what I write doesn't matter,
and I forget that I was once Midnite...

I wrote to keep the juices flowing,
a seamtress with lines, I kept sewing,
I wrote because it brought me joy,
so I could recite it, and bring the world my noise,
I wrote about what I truly loved,
I wrote about destiny and fate,
cause when there were no more hugs,
all I really had was animosity and hate,
I wrote because it calmed me,
like music did for the savage beast,
i wrote so I wouldn't have to scream,
took away the rage, and caught up with sleep

Now....I write because I must,
to preserve those memories before they collect dust,
to fulfill a solemn vow that I would never forget,
that I would never lose my cool when Im upset,
I write to honor HER memory,
cause without her, I'm missing a part of me,
Inspiration is hard to come by,
so I write to remember Meenie's lullaby....
I write....

This thing had a very simple flow, and rhyme scheme, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, look at the best of Chuck D's rhymes, he didn't say a lot, but he said a lot, I liked where you were going with this, but what I didn't like was whoever you were talking about at the end, because for the reader it was like, who's that, she just comes up at the end, so for me, it was like I'm missing part of the story. Yet I liked your writing.
