View Full Version : Possibilties of Pill Conflict? (not losing weight like pill claims)

Um... it's like um... i um... well..

Basically since the start of May, i've been on a daily supplement regimen that consists of 2 green tea pills, 2 flaxseed pills and a pill of 500 mg vitaman c tablets.

On top of that, i work out 4-5 days a week (30 minutes upper body, 45 cardio). (Just to let you all know, i've been working out since Dec. 2002, if that means anything).

My complaint? I am NOT LOSING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT!

I do eat whatever I want, but typically in moderation.

And the only thing that isn't in moderation is my binge drinking on the weekends (but i owe it to myself, right?)

Any who, i just want to know that is the lack of effective from the pills coming from the fact that i'm taking a multitude of them at the same time? (perhaps, they could be cancelling each other out?)

Should i concentrate on just one particular pill daily? Or is it just my eating habits (excessive drinking, eating late, etc.).

But what it boils down to is... how do i lose 10 pounds by June 16?

Any who, the Mega T green tea pill assured that i would lose weight (at least 20 pounds) by the time the pills were depleted (i've consumed at least 30 of that 45 day supply and i don't see a slight difference, and my energy has increased but very miniscule-ly). Wtf?

Thats your problem right there. That type of mentality MIGHT work for those who are extremely Obese and have alot of bodyfat, but not for people that are simply out of shape.

A diet starts and ends with what you eat.

Pill are only supplements, and nothing more. There is no magic pill that simply melts fat, but when used with proper eating and exercise it can aid you in cutting fat.

Make sure your eating atleast 4-6 small meals a day, and make sure your cutting calories. Avoid sugar like the plague and drink ONLY water. A serving of food per meal should be no bigger than the size of your fist; remember that as a rule of thumb.

Like Big H pointed out, thats your main problem. Your eating habit(diet) is the most important variable in the quest for fat loss, weight maintenance or muscle growth. Supplements ONLY supplement(complements) your diet.

You should eat low fat foods(with 0 trans fats), low(to 0) cholasterol, low sugar(or 0), foods. Also moderate carbs, and high protein. You ought to concentrate on consuming simple(fast processing) carbs during the day, also before and after workouts. And at night, try and eat more complex carbs. Follow that along with high protein foods. the complex carbs at night will help keep your metabolism high while you're sleeping. And usually keeping your metabolic rate high helps burn body fat.

and since you are cutting(lose fat) you should gradually reduce the number of calories you consume, like Big H pointed out. For example every two(three) or so weeks reduce the number of daily calories by 500 cals. until you reach your desired body weight. And then once you reach the desired body weight, just maintain that amount of caloric(sp?) intake.

but anyway if you dont eat properly the weight isnt going to come off and alcohol is packed with calories so all that exercise isnt putting you into a deficit like it would if you were eating correctly

PM rettas about your subscribed threads. 'cuz this mod is essentially powerless. oh i can like sticky a thread of yours or something tho.....

and cosign the alcohol thing, just empty calories.. say you binge drink and have like 12-15 beers in a night.. that's like anywhere from 2000 - 3000 calories right there.. damn near your daily caloric intake, AND you're gettin in in empty calories, AND you're puttin it in your body late at night.. not a good look.

HUm... i guess you have a point, because my body is at the point where, since most of my body is dense mass (except for my stumick, a little pudge johnson from my adolescent years), it would be a little more difficult for me to lose/shed some pounds for summer. Meaning that i have to give 100 percent dedication into what i'm doing (i'm not that much of a muscle head, but i'm pretty darn big for someone of my ethic background, i'm damn near 6 foot and 225 pounds).

I'm working on eating often, with smaller portions and i guess that's working for me.

But i concur with the sugar and alcohol consumption. Sugar is hard to burn, and liquor is filled with dead calories.

The thing that kills me the most is EATING CHINESE FOOD after a night of drinking and partying. That shiit is the worse (even though i work out right before I kick it to boost metabolism, but the effects won't outweight the things i do afterwards).

P.S. I never thought about the FOOD PORTION = Fist size ideology. I should look into that so that it decreases my food box.

Thanks champ.

I mean, just last night, this thread motivated me to purchase a can of pork and beans, 5 pounds of oranges and 3 pounds of bananas.

I hope to lose 10 pounds in the next 12 days.

But complex carbs meaning fruits and legumes right?

What else?

*throws away chip bag and kudos box*

Wait, KUDOS is made of full grain oats... should that be good for me?

*eats Snickers flavored Kudos*

also unless your obese you should only aim to loose 2 pounds a week. and try to drink as much water as possible, a gallon a day if you can

Complex carbs as in whole grains and veggies.

Cut out fruit, expect for blueberries and the occasional banana, and focus on getting your carbs from 100% whole grain sources like Rolled/Steel Cut Oats, Whole Grain bread, Whole Grain wraps, Triscuits, etc.

Fruit is not the best choice during a fat loss diet. Their good for healthy living, but can be a burden during a fat loss diet. I suggest you pick up a solid Multivitamin if your afraid of missing out on certain nutrients.

Always have veggies with a meal. Veggies have little caloric value, but fill you up due to their high water content, and are loaded with Fiber.

Also, as a bonus, reserve ONLY ONE MEAL during the week in which you cheat. Try to make this cheat meal lunch or an early dinner. And notice how I said MEAL and not day. A cheat meal can be fit into any diet without negative effects as long as you stay within your calorie limit for the day. Also try to avoid Sugar and Trans. Fat during this cheat meal.

A sample day in which I cheat (Saturdays) goes like this for me (when I'm cutting):

Breakfast: 6 Egg Whites, 2 cups of black coffee
Mid-Morning: Protein Shake
Lunch: CHEAT MEAL
Mid-Evening: 1/2 cup of Walnuts
Evening: 1 Chicken breast, steamed veggies
Bedtime: Serving of Cottage Cheese

I drink ONLY water during these days and I stay within my calorie intake for the day.

I like to head out to Subway and grub two footlong subs on wheat bread if I'm hungry during my cheat meal; I simply cut out the mid-evening meal if I do so.

Strawberries are mad low in carbs too...actually most berries are ok.

on the alcohol related tip if you wanna go out and drink...DO NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF. just stay away from beer. drink grain liquors with DIET coke or club soda. all pure distilled liquors (bourbon, brandy, gin, rum, scotch, tequila, vodka, whiskey, etc) contain zero carbs. you still gotta keep calories in mind though....

here's a little snippet from the Atkins book...for those of us who like to be fit but get our drink on now and again. ;)
Alcohol, whenever taken in, is the first fuel to burn. While that's going on, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop the weight loss, it simply postpones it, since the alcohol does not store as glycogen, you immediately go back into ketosis/lipolysis after the alcohol is used up.

If you must drink alcohol, wine is an acceptable addition to levels beyond the Induction diet. If wine does not suit your taste, straight liquor such as scotch, rye, vodka, and gin would be appropriate, as long as the mixer is sugarless; this means no juice, tonic water; or non-diet soda. Seltzer and diet soda are appropriate."

^^that doesn't mean you can go out and drink the whole bar...as i mentioned you still gotta watch those calories.....but alcohol in moderation is OK.

Thanks for showing love fam.

And to my girls AG and Femme, i know you two secretly talk about me behind the scenes.

You love me.

Anywho, i started the day with a slice of bread and slice of lean 98 percent fat free turkey meat with a teaspoon of light mayo.

It was good.

And i'll work on the vegetables thing too. I'm just so lazy to prepare anything that requires the stove top (and to make meals with vegetables where they actually TASTE good is not something i'm sufficient at).

I need some recipes.

Any one have ideas where i can incorporate some carrots and potatos, make it wholesome and fulfilling, yet taste hella bomb at the same time?

get some dry french onion soup mix and add 4 cups of water, and let the vegetables simmer in a crockpot or on the stovetop until they're soft. it adds great flavor and very minimal calories, 0 fat. however if you're watching your sodium intake as well as calories, etc., it isn't the best.

from what i read your main prblem is eating what you want and your drinking.

alcohol causes major dehydration. this is one of the first things they teach us when we join the military. you can take in about 3 or 4 beers and could take up to 4 or 5 liters of water to get that shyt shyt out your system.

so lets just say that you workout 4-5 days a week and you drinl about 2 liters of water a day. it could take you up to the middle of the week to gain that enrgy back. but then you go back about 3 days later drink heavy again.

most supplements tell you not to drink alcoholic beverages while on the supp. becuz it can cause liver damage. so instead of complaining you should consider yourself lucky to not having kidney failure.
