I'm big on PFunk. I love just about every Parliament and Funkadelic record. This is a very diverse set of records I'm talking about. In approaching PFunk, you should probably figure out what sound you like the most. To my ears, there's essentially four different PFunk styles/sounds. Here they are with a list of records (from greatest to least) for each:

Their hard rock sound:
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain (won't disappoint Hendrix or Sly Stone fans)
Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop
Funkadelic - Funkadelic

Their gritty, organic funk sound:
Funkadelic - Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On (great album)
Parliament - Chocolate City
Funkadelic - Let's Take It To The Stage
Parliament - Up For The Downstroke
Bootsy's Rubber Band - Ahh, The Name Is Bootsy, Baby!
Bootsy's Rubber Band - Stretchin Out
Funkadelic - Tales of Kidd Funkadelic

Their disco era sound:
Parliament - The Motor Booty Affair (Their most musically sophisticated album imo)
Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove (really eclectic but accessible)
Parliament - Mothership Connection (balanced between the grit of Standing and the polish of Motor Booty)
Parliament - Funkentelechy Vs The Placebo Syndrome (has "Flashlight" on it)
Funkadelic - Uncle Jam Wants You (has "not just Knee Deep" on it)
Parliament - Clones of Dr Funkenstein (a lot like Mothership Connection)
Bootsy's Rubber Band - Bootsy? Player of the Year

Electro-funk:
George Clinton - Computer Games
Parliament - Trombipulation
Funkadelic - Electric Spanking Of War Babies

Electic and weird (not for the uninitiated):
Funkadelic - America Eats Its Young
Parliament - Rhenium or Osmium

Kinda suck:
Funkadelic - Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow (only sucks because of the production values; this album was recorded during an acid trip)
Parliament - Gloryhollastoopid (only get if after trying Trombipulation first)
Bootsy Collins - Ultra Wave (same here)

On Isaac Hayes: I like Hot Buttered Soul. The stuff really worth copping, though, is Curtis Mayfield (Curtis; Super Fly), Stevie Wonder (Inner Visions; Songs In The Key Of Life), and Sly & the Family Stone (There's A Riot Goin' On; Stand!)

hey thanks a lot man, thats exactly what im looking for, im going to research this and get back to you but i think i like the "organic funk" sound but im just guessing..

i appreciate the input cuz i have a lot of respect for this music, but im only 20 and its hard to find out more about it.

blows my mind they were making all this advanced high tech sound 20 years ago, and its funny how every rap song i ever heard samples these guys..
