Great supplement that should be used by EVERYONE. It does so many positive things for your body (too many list), but for lifters its been known to promote the following: Stronger joints and connective tissue, lower bodyfat, increased muscle mass through higher GH production, regularity, great looking skin, etc.

Its the Omega 3 in Flax Seed that makes it so good for you. You can also try Fish Oils if you want the full chain of EFA's.

I pop about 16 capsules (1 gram per capsule) a day (4 capsules, 4 times a day) to get my serving, but it depends on what you want. The straight up Oil provides a lot of Flax in 1 or 2 tablespoons but some people can't stand the taste (tastes like grass). I switched to the capsules cuz its more conveineint for my schedule and lifestyle.

To really see the benefits of Flax you gotta supplement for about a week consistently, and then you'll start noticing differences. The first one most people see if the increased flexibility in their joints and relief of pain that was once there.

Just take them and you'll notice the difference.

I might put my girl up on it to. I will take the liquid kind though, mix it in mith my food or shakes...

thanks

Yea I forgot about the shake option. Add them to a protein shake with a Multivitamin and in essence you'll have a MRP. Just make sure you take it daily. A lot of people lower bodyfat just by supplementing EFAs like Flax Seed.

i recently started taking one tablespoon of fresh flax seed oil but i stopped, not because of the taste but it was making me feel slightly nauseous for some reason. I read that 3 tablespoons of flax seeds = 1 tablespoon of flax seed oil, and i also read that there are some nutrients in the seeds that aren't in the oil so what i started doing is grinding 2 tablespoons of seeds and puting them on yogurt, twice daily.

if you're gonna eat the seeds it's very important to grind them because otherwise your body doesn't break them down and you just sh1t them out. they grind up pretty good in a coffee grinder and it tastes alot better than the oil.

Up it to 12 caps a day.

The changes won't seem blatanly obvious, but like I said look for some of the early signs like increased flexibility, no more joint pain, better skin, better sleep, more regular bowel movements, etc. The muscle and fat burning aspects of Flax Seed are more behind-the-scenes if you will. Flax doesn't make you gain muscle or strength, but it kicks start the production of Testosterone and GH in your body which in turn leads to better results.

Your gonna also notice an increase in Cardiovascular capabilities; running, HIIT, etc. Flax Seed has been used for years in treating Cardiovascular issues.

Yea I mean caps are nice, but when you start wanting mega-doses of it you may want to step it up to the Oil or actual Flax Seeds. Add them to protein shakes and blend it so it masks the grassy taste.

Also look into picking up some Fish Oils too; another very healthy choice which provides all the Essential Fatty Acids.

Well thats up for debate. The issue is keeping sunlight from hitting the actual oil; if you shop around you'll notice that flax seed oils or pills have special coatings and so does the actual bottle containing them. Since most Oils are cold-pressed they expect you to keep them cold to extend shelf-life, but certain products don't require it. Some oils can have a shelf-life of 1 year without refrigeration.

If you buy the fresh kind that's refridgerated at the supermarket then I wouldn't even risk keeping it unrefridgerated, i heard that **** can be pretty nasty if it goes rancid.

if you have a wild oats or natural food market in your area ask them where the nutritional oils are and they'll be there already refridgerated.

check out this recipe i found and been eating the last week

-1 cup of plain low fat yogurt (or cottage chesse, i read yogurt helps your body to digest the oil better)
-1 tbsp of flax seed oil
-2 tbsp of ground flax seeds
-fresh sliced pineapple (or any other fruit)

mix well in a bowl

i gotta say this tastes great, don't even tast the oil at all

I usually just go to GNC and pick up their flax seed caps, but if I want quality oil I buy online:

or, this one is also good if you want the complete chain (3-6-9 EFA's):

I purchased the flax seed oil capsules that contain 1000mg from GNC but the bottle said to take only one capsule a day. Is okay to take more or should I stick to what is recommended by the bottle?

You can take 1-3 capsules a day with meals. or depending on how many meals you consume a day, take one with every meal. I take one flax seed oil capsule(1000mg) with every meal and I eat 6-8 meals a day.

I've been taking the flax capsules for about 3 years now ...this stuff does amazing things for your skin...I also eat uncle sam cereal everyday which has whole flaxseed in it

I don't see what the hype is about flax seed oil. It's become big business nowadays. Fish Oil is pretty awful with the contaminants and all. It's not filtered out.

Flax seed oil only contains ALA, which is the first in the chain of Omega 3's. It is then converted to EPA and then to DHA, but the rate is not very efficient with Flax Seed Oil, only 2-10% depending on your body. Furthermore, it's unstable and it's solely fat. I suggest freshly ground flax seed because of the added nutrients you'll benefit from.

Fish oil contains both DHA and EPA, I believe. But, it also contains harmful contaminants. It's not worth it.

The best source, IMO, of Omega 3 would be algae. This is where fish get their Omega 3 content. Algae is their source. Is it the best source of DHA and also contains EPA. I suggest finding it in oil form.

i find the oil form to be more effective than the capsules. it's nasty though, and i take it at night b/c it upsets my stomach a little if i take it during the day. actually i didn't really notice anything when i took capsules, but the oil i can see the difference in just a few days.

it's done good things for me though, esp my skin and i believe it's helped with my hormonal imbalances that flare up at times... it also has helped with regularity, esp when i eat or drink crap that's bad for me, i notice it helps with digestion whereas before a night of drinking alcohol and eating cookie dough would leave be bound up something TERRIBLE.. i can slip and have some less-than-healthy indulgences and not be miserable for the next 3 days.

The oil is more effective, not always too convenient. You can mix it in with your protein shake to make things simple though. Some people can't stand the taste.

one thing i wanted to say about the oil was.. if you get health products and supplements from GNC, wal-mart, or meijer, you MAY want to look someplace else for the flax oil.. another health/herbs store, online, or something.. i've gotten "bad" oil from several places.. you can tell if it's bad b/c it shouldn't smell acrid or pungent.. or like paint thinner.. :guilty:.. and it should be cold processed, and just smell like oil. the best stuff should come refrigerated, too.. and be kept that way. if you buy it off a shelf, make sure you keep it in the fridge. also, the stuff doesn't last THAT long, so make sure you use it up like you're supposed to and toss it.

Organic Flaxseed Oil is fresh pressed and unrefined, using the exclusive omegaflo process that eliminates both light and air during manufacturing. Bottling oil in an opaque container while using inert gas excludes light and air, preventing free radical formation. The bottle has been exhaustively tested and is inert in the presence of Flaxseed Oil.
