I would have to say no but it showcased how far advanced he was lyricaly than most rappers in the 80s
I love Bad To The Bone still to this day. G-Rap murders that joint.
I gotta go with "In the Streets of New York."

G. Rap was too advanced back then. He was the Papoose of his day. (I can't believe I typed that.)

isn't it sad that Kool G rap in the 80s is more lyrical than 50 cent in 2006??

Anyone got the remake of Men At Work
"Thugs At Work" with Cormega, same beat, but they just trading verses back and forth, pretty hot.
Ill Street Blue's, that song use to be my favorite G Rap song, but then I would bounce back and forth between that and the title thread of "Men At Work"
The man is just relentless on the mic

What....none of y'all liked 'Poison'??????
'....My brain is like a factory constantly creatin'
Material stitch by stitch for decoratin'
Lyrics are fabrics, beat is the lining
My passion in rhyming is fashion designing...'
One of the Illest beats I ever heard.

Yeah "Poison" "Road to the RIches" and "The Symphony" all came out in 1988
Then his LP dropped in the summer of 89. It was ok, but not as hot as Long Live the Kane or Biz's GOin Off, which came out a year prior.
Bottom line is that Biz, Kane and G Rap were all produced by Marley and all on COld Chillin so they had equal buzz.
Kool G Rap was a beast on the mic, but he didn't have the club bangers like Biz Markie (Make the Music with your Mouth, Nobody Beats the Biz, The Vapors) or the smooth flow like Kane (Ain't No 1/2 Steppin, Smooth Operator) or the Club Bangers (Raw, Set it Off, Wrath of Kane, Warm it Up Kane).
Kool G Rap was an ill MC, but the game was swift and changable and somehow he got ignored.
Actually, if you like Kool G Rap, you may want to check Chill ROb G's album Ride the Rhythm from 1989 produced by DJ Mark the 45 King. That album was probably better than G Rap's debut. Lyrics were better too.

Road to the Riches is his illest IMO. That $hit could come out today. That was also the first video I remember that showed some real deal street $hit the way it pops off.

I've always liked Kool Is Back off Wanted Dead Or Alive...its a joint most cats don't talk about but I dunno....G Rap's rapped over nicer beats but his flow is vicious.

True dat! I was watching that video yesterday and I had never noticed the "Scarface" poster hanging in the office. Now whenever you watch MTV Cribs, ever "rapper" has the "Scarface" poster hanging in their house. They are all biting of G Rap.

I have to say no. great song, but no
"Fast life" "ill Street Blues" "It's a Shame" is better in my books.

Did he ever have a wack verse? I have to think about this so hard it kills my brain cells...and Men at Work was whoa, but Bad To the Bone is my ****, he kills it, and the beat...DAMN, these kids don't know good music if it came and **** in their mothers mouths and kissed them.

Heard it again last week on www.fatratradio.com (http://www.fatratradio.com). It's real tight and clearly one of G. Rap's best, BUT ... Personally, "Truly Yours" is my favorite.
How's the album 4,5,6. I'm familiar with some tracks but never really peeped the whole joint?

Men At Work and Bad To the Bone are two of my favorites and the illest joints ever...nobody can see Kool G Rap, he was always better than Rakim and BDk...even KRS. Nobody wants it with him, then or now. It's so funny how nice some of these rappers are until a real emcee comes along...

He was vicous on the mic, but funny at the same time (Truly Yours)
But even outside of that golden age he still ripped it, specially on tracks like "Stick to Ya Gunz" with M.O.P.
"I Represent Queens and Crime Scenes, a Murder Machine, Stick M-16's in Niccaz Spleens, So Head for the hills / Cause the Blood shed is real / I aim and squeeze and shoot to kill so grab ya body armor"
and later on goes onto just be flowing and crazy and says something like
"Go to toys r us and get ya cabbage patch kid"
and I was just like ".............wow"

yeah i've always thought the same, it's like a 'how to rap' manual anyone who followed. it keeps it's too good, concept is perfect, viscious flow, referring back to itself... unreal
yeah there may be some more entertaining g rap tracks etc. but men at work is just technically perfect

The lyrics and flow on Men At Work are unfukkwitable. I was blowin trees one day listening to that shyt and was like WTF?!?!
Also love Road To The Riches, Truly Yours, Ill Street Blues, Talk Like Sex...fukk it too many to name.
