Did Layne intentionally commit suicide the same day as kobain, or was it a coincidence...did he really mean to kill himself anyway? that shyt was weird man...( I always thought april freaky, I think it has something to do with easter and the death of christ  )
anyway *bumps "Lithium" for Cobain and "down in a hole" for Layne*..
2 of the best that ever did it...
fukk the media for killing Kurt, it's sad layne couldnt get over his depression though...
Give props

You missing something epic with Nirvana dog...
Cobain did'nt even write songs...it was poetry...
People hear the music today but they don't know what it means, come up with the dumbest ideas about it, and then try to sh*t on it when 99.9% of all rock bands in our generation wish they had someone like Cobain in their group so that their music would mean something than something they scribbled on paper in a studio...

word up...
peace to exodusnirvana, im wearing one of my nirvana shirts today...cobain was a sick song writer, not only for the lyrics but also for the arrangement...I loved how he sang the choruses soft and slowly, then in the hook he sped the pace up and sang loudly...(he's not the only one to do this but he perfected that shyt)....plus dude was witty and funny as fukk

TO me Cobain is somewhat like Bob Dylan, good songwriters, that's it. Although I do dig most of In Utero I've never gotten around to buying it. But Nevermind, I grew up with that sh!t and I still don't see the "specialness".

whoa whoa whoa
U dont like Alice in chains either?
how can u pass up on their song writing and arrangement, harmonizing, guitar playing (cantrell), haunting vibe in their music (peep Jar of flies), bassist (peep "would"..this shyt could make a sick hiphop bassline)
what would u choose over these grunge/atl bands in the 90s?
r.i.p. to the both of them. both instrumental on the microphone in one way or another.
Bless.

I mainly don't have their albums because they still get played constantly on the radio, so it's not like I really go even a day without hearing some of their sh!t.
For me the best band out of the 90's by far is At The Drive In but I also love Tool.

Tool is far smoother sounding and less loud (for the most part) than either AIC or Nirvana and ATDI is punk.

Tool is louder than nirv/aic, well at least to me...maybe I dont like them as much because aic and nirv are more melodic...
never heard of atdi though, (can't stand punk either)

I really don't see how Nirvana is anywhere close to the melodic talents of Maynerd, and ATDI is different from most punk.

I have a bias versus metal in general so I wont be a good judge of that...Tool is cool though I liked that album undertow
no way is maynard a better song writer and composer than Cobain is, look at son's discography 90% of his songs are memorable and transcend generation, fukk u think they still play his joints so often on the radio? that early 90s alt movement was had one of the greatest eras in music

I never said anything close to maynerd being a better songwriter I said he is a better melodicist. That is not necessarily an aspect of songwriting, Paul McCartney is a great melodicist, yet I think he's one of the worst songwriters I've ever heard. BTW Tool came out at the same time as Nirvana aka part of that early 90's scene. And really the reaon that Nirvana is played so much on radio has nothing to do with quality, I hear Aerosmith every day and they blow.

I dont consider tool to be in the same movement as nirvana, their more like metallica and korn and them...
when i think of the 90s grunge/alt movement i think of nirvana, pearljam, screaming trees, shyt like that..
nirvana getting played on the radio is partly cuz of cobains death, but also for showing the huge influence they have on rock today (kind of like how u can hear old jay, x, snoop from the 90s), plus their music fits right in because today's rock hasnt got that far away from what they were doing...
I dont see the melody arguement man, I love melodic shyt that's why I can listen grunge more than any other rock because its the most melodic IMO..when i listen tool they arent that melodic to me,
yeah.... rest in peace to both...
one thing though.... i don't know about layne stanley but kurt cobain seemed like a cool dude... they both were some VERY VERY troubled folks though. VERY troubled. heroin fiends

yea nirvana souns alot like melvins (i think they were cobain's favorite band or something)
but to me tool is more metal than alternative which is nirvana's style...
have u heard the new tool album?
Kobain was always talking about the Pixies, too... probably 'cause they sounded so much like them? lol. Check the Smells Like... video.
Great bands, though. That's for sure.

lol at this...
Maynard >>> Kurt except at guitar playing, cuz he doesnt play guitar, but who cares, Kurt was a really sh1tty guitarist. As a singer and especially as a lyricist Maynard is way better. Both Tool and A Perfect Circle are way better than Nirvana.
You said Tool aint melodic and you liked Undertow, well Undertow was their first full length album and it was pretty straight forward hard rock. Their next 2 albums, Aenima, and especially Lateralus are very melodic and the arrangements on the songs blow anything Nirvana did out of the water.
Dave Grohl was the best musician in Nirvana, true story.
Bone Daddy is on point in this thread, At The Drive In is way better than Nirvana too. The 23 minutes of music known as "Vaya" >>> Nirvana's discography.
Aenima's a classic album. In fact, there aren't too many places i could go without that album. 13th Step has been my FAVORITE album 3 days after i bought it.
But how can you compare Tool and Nirvana? That's kind of silly, no?

lol yall bugging, so you guys are telling me that Tool is prolly better than alice in chains too?
yea dave grohl is the best musician in nirvana, u have to give it to him from atechnical stand point too because he can play everything and is one of the best drummers ever (dude plays them shyts like bullets dog)...cobain can only play guitar and he isnt good at it, but i liked how it played that shyt still..he always tried to get the grimiest sound out of that shyt, he's sick when using alot of the feedback and reverb and make them sound like notes...
it's crazy how layne went out for real..they found him in his house dead for like 15 days, they found him on the 20th and they estimated that he died on the 5th (same as cobain)...crazy shyt...i mean why the fukk was he shutting himself in like that...
