Lord what is a man to do
out of one hole into another
trying to seek answers from you
and only then is it that I discover
that I have to look to the book
see the church makes my pocket hurt
it's just that it feels like I am being took
don't have nothin' left to give but the shirt
I feel bad for getting mad when they ask
to give what I can when the tray is passed
I do not own a suit and old shoes I have to wear
I see the smiles in my presence whisper then stare
those who have not enough far out weigh those that do
man I'm only donating a dollar because all I have left is two
preacher and his staff are sharp and they're pockets are full
God gave them a home and a Car but we can't see thru the wool
the church alway's collecting offerings for one cause or another
how about taking up an collection for the 2 job havin mothers
mom I know that I let you down for not reaching my worth
on your face is never a frown but in your eyes I see the hurt
lord knows that my intentions were good in things I set out to do
one thing I would change if I could is my lack of a follow through
now I'm not knocking the church for that would be nothing but wrong
but now the Bible is the only place where I will be getting my Church on

Why is it that everytime a sista is going through something I read your words and they soothe me....I think it's because you expose a little of yourself in your writing and I try to do the same...or maybe it's because I'm at a similar place with a love hate relationship with the church....Whichever one it is...I appreciate it....

Dopeness....

Hey we be vibing that's all, I think you're right on both accounts though. I am guilty of the sneek peek into my life and I am battling with my feelings bout the church. Thank You for feeling my work and I don't have to tell you that I am happily standing in that long line called the SexxyDee fan club.

Thanks again.

I liked this. I could feel it. I used to be the same exact way -- wouldn't step foot in a church once I left home. Wack churches can keep you away from the whole idea of church. A few things to remember here to keep your head up.

1. In a good church, they don't make you feel like garbage because you don't have anything to give. Seriously. Sadly enough, it's hard to find those places, but they do exist... I've found one, and my life has changed because of it. In a godly church, they don't take up 30 collections and take up an hour to do it because they don't think people gave enough. In a godly church, they have programs for those single mothers, or those ex-cons who need a job, or those crackbabies. Don't give up.

2. There's a passage in the Bible (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke%2021:1-4;&version=31;)) where a woman gave less than some other folks, but it counted more in Jesus' eyes because it was more of a sacrifice. So, if all you got is two dollars and you give one to God, you're giving more than the millionaire who gives $10,000... it's all about the sacrifice. If it's given with the right heart, God sees it as more. That's real.

3. You gotta get hooked up to a good church to build up your spirit. It's in the Bible (http://www.christiananswers.net/q-acb/acb-t009.html). It's like... the same way being around your boys may lift you up, being around real Christians lifts up your spirit... you can see God workin in their lives and it builds you up.

Keep your head up, man. PM me if you ever wanna chat.

Thanks alot my Brother, now that's love. I really appreciate your pointers a brother has to be reminded every now and then of the bright side of things. I'm lookin' forward to your edits too and I might just take you up on the chat tip. You seem like a true spiritual brother who's willing to shine for others, and a brother be needin' a jump start big time. I think I might try and see if I can luck up and find one of those Godly Churches in my area, pray for a brother.

Thanks again.

Edited the post, but put stuff here too so it's easier to find.

The Widow's Offering
As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on." -- Luke 21:1-4, New International Version
