A distraught Patti LaBelle broke down in tears onstage in the middle of performing Saturday at Florida's Riviera Beach Jazz & Blues Festival.
The 62 year-old veteran singer took the stage at midnight after a lineup of various artists. There despite temperatures that dipped into the low 50s, the legend attempted to offer her usually stellar vocals.
She failed. After continually delivering cracked notes and witnessing audience members get up to leave, Labelle sat down on the stage and broke into tears.
“I’ve never been this embarrassed in my life,” LaBelle told the audience. “It’s the worst show I’ve ever done in my life.”
The “Lady Marmalade” singer also explained that she suffers from diabetes and a heart murmur, and the cold weather made her condition worst.
She told fans that she couldn't blame them if they walked out on her.
“I’ve never ever given you less than I can give. I’m gonna give you everything you deserve,” she promised.
Towards the end of what turned out to be 45 minutes on the stage, LaBelle attempted to sing her signature song and was helped along by a few audience members who stuck with her before she threw in the performance towel.
