What happened to R&B???

Remember in the early and late 90's how great R&B was?? Example: D'angelo, Lauren Hill, Jodeci, Shai......In the present time R&B is just not where it used to be. There are some great acts out right now like Mary, Ne-yo, and Anthony Hamilton but there is just not enough R&B compared to other genres of music. There is this new R&B artist named J-RE. R&B/Soul really has gotten consistently worse since the 70s...the overuse synths and keyboards over huge instrumental ensembles ruined the music over time.

But yeah its gone downhill from the 90s too...Jodeci, Tony Toni Tone, Aaliyah, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu etc all held it down. The production techniques have just gotten lazier apart from a few people like Soulquarians and Raphael Saadiq.
