from a technical standpoint maybe. he's up there at least. but shred isnt everything.

True but he plays all kinds of music ranging from metal, funk, prog, jazz, classical, ambient, bluegrass, and even hip-hop(he did a track with Saul Williams). He's a genius with the technical skill to back it up. He's not a one trick pony.
