View Full Version : Arctic Monkeys: Unimpressive

Not bad, let me say that, it's not bad. Just, after the hype of the UK press(almost always bullsh!t) and the hype y'all had(not always bad) I was expecting something a little "more". I mean all I hear when I listen is the pantheon of British rock, a little Kinks here, a little Franz Feridnand there, a little Oasis, alittle Libertines. In the end I really think this is the most derivative album I've heard in a couiple years. Now the songs are catchy and at least it's got a little heavier guitar sound than most of the indie style bullsh!t y'all (and the Brits) love, but for the most part I don't see anything special, let alone spectacular about this album. Granted I've only listened to it now 3 times, so I'll give it a few more spins (Bloc Party, which blows this out of the water, took me about a month to get past all the songs sounding the same), but so far this is right in line with the first Strokes album, too much hype, not enough talent.

It's all hype. Trust me, you're not the only one who isn't calling it a classic.

Yeah I agree. And from the other thread, anyone who still thinks its better than the Bloc Party album is rubbish.
Still, impressive sales, in the US also. Which pleases me cos i'm British.

Listened to it more last night, same conclusion. All I hear is influences, that's it.
I have a theory about what British people like: if they call it "groundbreaking" or "new" it just means a slightly different variation on what they love already.

That's brilliant.

They're terrible. A testament to how bad rock music is right now when they're hyped like this. They doing nothing the strokes, the libertines haven't done who haven't done nothing joy division or television didn't do in the 70s. weak ****.

i havent heard anyone outside of nme call it classic. if you listen to it and dont let the hype influenec you, it is a good album. nothing groundbreaking or spectacular, but a solid album that serves its purpose

Man, people on here have been saying it's classic since way before it came out, interestingly now that I say it's not, they aren't backing themselves up?.?.?.?

No. Bloc Party is far far better than Arctic Monkey's.
