All the dudes I know that play football work out their chest and back 2-3 times a week. In fitness magazines they say you should hit a bodypart once a week, but the guys I know see excellent results lifting weights damn near every day, them niccas dont even take protein.

would i see more gains if i tried this for a couple of weeks?

all you need is 48-72 hours rest from working the same muscle group....

so they are resting between days...just not hitting the same muscle group everyday...

for example

Chest/back on monday, wed, fri.
Arms/shoulders tuesday, thurs
Legs sat, sun, etc...

I work my chest/back/shoulders/and triceps 3 days a week and i hit my biceps and forearms 2 days a week..

Different training for different goals. Football players want to add strength and speed before mass so they put more priority on strength and explosive lifting programs. They don't go to fatigue and exhaustion when they lift (which induces Hypertrophy) so in a way they can afford to train 2-3 a week while doing the same muscle group. Plus the variable of fast-twitch or slow-twitch muscle fiber also comes in to play here; genetics play a huge role in muscle recovery.

But if you lift for the reasons most of us lift for, training each muscle group once a week is the best way to increase lean muscle while adding strength. By this I mean going to exhaustion on each set to force the muscle to adapt and grow to it's new state after the Microtrauma you have just inflicted on the muscle.
