Cerebral Knievel

my fingernails
break the skin
and chunks of
the me
everybody sees
surrender to my
determination to
not be like you
anymore
brown flesh hits the floor
and I continue to claw
until I'm
faceless
raceless
nerve endings
singing a song of
celebration
at the mutilation
of your
expectations
of what a
black man
has to be
I'm willing to bleed
some
for freedom.
burn burn
the kerosene smells
divine
as it's odor paints my
nasal linings
purifying
the tainted trappings
of our so called
civillization
I've been patient
now burn
burn the buffets
offering all you can eat
while poor people are starving
across the street
burn the ATMs
amusement parks
burn the billboards
offering a product
the people who built it
can't afford
burn burn
sickeningly sweet smoke
chokes
sears the inside of my nose
and throat
but in the crackle of the flames
I hear the shackles and the chains
of the third world snapping
my lungs are blackening
with the
smoke
of their emancipation
from our complacency
and I'm happy to
breathe some
for freedom
break the skin
and chunks of
the me
everybody sees
surrender to my
determination to
not be like you
anymore
brown flesh hits the floor
and I continue to claw
until I'm
faceless
raceless
