i've always done my crunches flat on the floor or on a mat. but as i get older, my lower back is starting to ache like it never did before. i've been thinking about getting one of those ab machines that are supposedly easier on your back, but i don't want to get an overpriced gimmicky one, i want one that will really work well for me. any suggestions or thoughts from those who have purchased one? thanks in advance

well... i don't think they're ALL scams.. i'm not talking about the machines they advertise as making you get ripped abs in 2 weeks.. and i already eat healthy and all that.

LOL...old bones, huh?

Or do you actually have back problems from a previous injury or somethin'?

just older bones i guess. i wanted something like the ab lounge, or some product that would make it easier on my back.

Hmm...maybe a fitness ball...

Word I recommend the fitness ball or just doing some different type of ab exercises, there are plenty out there, prolly better than situps anyway.

Peace!

honestly, those Tony Little 8 minute a day ab-rollers is just a waste of fetti and would probably end up hurting your back more than conventional crunches. your gym probably has one of these (http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/LVSeatedCrunchGripless.html) and I suggest your brittle ass starts using it. as you can see from the diagram the lever/weights place all pressure on your stomach and love handles without putting your back in a stressful position.

lol@ brittle. asswipe. :ucku:

i stopped going to the gym since i'm slowly building a home gym piece by piece. so far i have a standard bike, step machine, elliptical bike, and various free weights. but yes my old gyms did have those machines and i used to kick ass on them when i'd use them. but for some reason i thought those were more for bodybuilders trying to puff their six-packs out than toning. i'm sure i'm wrong though.

thanks everyone. i am going to give the fitness ball a try, it's coming highly recommended by everyone i talk to.
