diet and cardio. I used be chubby as a kid in Middle School. Then I started playing basketball everyday, eating better, and exercises with my own bodyweight. My fat % dropped quickly in a few months. Eat high protein foods, low in saturated fat, no snacks except on sundays, lots of water, lots of fruit, lots of vegetables (preferably green), and eat that for most of your meals. Also, do some type of cardio atleast 20 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week

I never said you could, but cardio can help with the gut and cheeks. Even if you don't have a great diet, cardio can still help somewhat. I'm giving my personal experience when I was a kid....
Dieting and Weight training. Cardio helps but it only helps burn calories for a set amount of time, while building muscle increases your metabolism and burns more calories 24/7. You will still lose weight, but not as much because of the muscle mass you are adding to your body so its important you focus on bodyfat instead of the scale.

To lose weight, all that is needed is to negative balance in terms of calories in versus calories out. Cardio helps immensely with losing fat. Studies have also found that more fat is burned after vigorous intense exercise than after low intensity exercise due to “excess post exercise oxygen consumption.”
You want to lost FAT effectively, then eat right AND do some intense cardio. If you are a beginner, start off light and work your way up. After, say, 2 to 3 months of consistency (minimal cheating), you should see some nice results.
I would also lift 3 times a week.
