View Full Version : Which are harder: Deadlifts or Stiff-legged Deadlifts?
Because I don't know. I've seen different people do deadlifts in different way, some people using their legs to just pick up the weight, some people spreading their legs with knees bent while bent over with back straight while lifting the weight, and some people keeping their feet together and legs slightly straight while lifting the weight.
When I used to rep 365, I repped it in the position of the last one, with legs straight and bending at the waist. Was I doing a true deadlift or was i doing a more difficult/easier one? Sometimes I spread my legs farther, but mostly I did them with feet closer.

regular deadlifts when going heavy are challenging since your using lower back, plus hams/quads; that is Sumo style deads or conventional style deads.
Stiff-leg deads are solely for hams(no back involvement) and are much easier and you're not supposed to go heavy.

That is not the correct regular/conventional deads. You're seriously going to ruin your lower back like that if you go too heavy. thats pretty much stiff-leg deads that you were doing. You want to have your lower back low(not too low) to help your hams/quads lift the weight up. Thats why you also want your legs bent(<) and back straight(inclined about 45+ degrees to the floor), and thats pretty much a true power deadlift.
A month ago I maxed out at 545lbs doing power deads, which is an improvement from my previous max(495lbs). Yep Im a happy camper at the moment since my deads has gone up. :) I hope to deadlift 600lbs+ soon.

Didn't seem much easier to me than the regular ones. Regular ones are easier to me because I use my entire legs, I don't use them too much when doing the stiff-legged deadlift. Just my lower back and hammy's (which I need to work on anyways). I wasn't doing Dead's wrong, just not regular deads. I kinda do them like the powerlifters on the "world's strongest man" show.

On the world strongestman show they usually do conventional deadlifts a.k.a power deadlift. I love strong man competitions and I follow it closely. Big Mariusz Pudianowvski(sp?) does regular deads(power deads) also.
