i guess i would miss it if it ever stopped
sounds of the city like sirens and gunshots
but i do think i could live without the smells
the excreted stairwells and don't touch the rails
you can take the elevator but at your own risk
to a brother who's gotta have it crime's hard to resist
there is no grass just glass dispersed over concrete
see the naked backboards missing swings and poles
playgrounds used to be a haven for young lost souls
those who now frequent it have atrocious motives
better not venture over if you have nothing to give
it is commonplace for you to be an eyewitness to crime
or to step over a body in the halls that is dead or dying
it seems that young sisters are delivering starting fives
just victims of the system no matter how hard they try
the old folks stay inside liked they are under house arrest
and how long the crack man's out is anybody's guess
it is sad to have to live like a prisoner in your own home
looking out at the youth and wondering what went wrong
suddenly all of the stores are gone and can you imagine that
of all the ones that are still in the hood none are run by blacks
it's nothing to see a condum,crackbag even a pair of dirty draws
