It's been awhile.

Anyway, I started investing on home equipment. And I mean I literally started. I'm looking to get the best prices on the basics. So far I only got a ball ($20) and a pair of dumbells, which right now can only go up to 20 pounds a piece ($30 - it was on sale $20 off I think at sports authority). I will start getting more plates. I already had a pushup bar and a bunch of resistant bands I used when I was strengthening my shoulder when I dislocated it.

I can use some advice how which equipment and where I can get it to save money.

Other than that I hope a lot of you are on the way to getting the gains that you were aiming for.

Dicks got some nice deals on stuff.

I got my bench that includes bench press, incline bench press, dips, squats, ez bar curl thingy, hamstring curls, military/shoulder press for $189. I love it.

Well you gon need a bench and Sports Authority usually has decent prices on some nice setups. If you try and buy from a major supplier like Gym Source their gonna f*ck you with the prices. I copped an Olympic style Bench Press/Squat Rack setup from Sports Authority for around $250 if I recall; Not a bad price for what your gettin.

Things are going well yall. What up Logic, Big H, Genocide, Whoa and others? Been busy. Unfortunately I do not have space for a bench at my place. So, that's why I was hoping I could get some assistence to sustitute the bench and barbell. I know what some of yall are going to say, you can't. I'm not trying to do this long-term. The next 16 or so weeks I will be finishing my masters program, and since the gym at school does not open til 9am and I start working at 9am doing research work, and have class til 9pm (when the gym closes), I bought some DBs and a ball so I can workout during that time. Yeah, I know, it sucks.

So I get my workout on 3 times a week and do cardio about twice a week, if I'm lucky. This is the "I am working out so I do not get out of shape (maintain at the very least) since the scenario I am in doesn't allow my to really workout to improve my overall shape."

What I have right now is a set of DBs, a ball, resistance bands I got from the trainers at school, pushup bar, jump rope and I basically play ball on saturdays for 90 minutes.

Right now I am at 12% bf (it's weird how the body fat can increase from 9% to 14.5% if you stop working out for alittle like I did. I will like to maintain my weight and bf %age. Not necessarily transform my room to a gym. Although, I wouldn't mind doing that in the near future. Now the funds and spare time will not allow me to do that. When I'm done with school and start working full time, I will go back to working out like normal.

I'll look at dycks, sports authority around this area.

Well, your situation sounds alot like mines. You're basically trying to do enough to make sure you don't lose what you've already worked for. I agree in the fact that you will probably lose alot of RAW strength with what you have now, but you can easily increase your muscle endurance by increasing the reps on what you're capable of doing now. I suggest you buy a waist strap for your pullup bar, so you can atleast put more resistence on it. The jumprope is good. I just bought some ankle weights to use while running and doing polymetrics, you could do the same. You can help your pushups by doing more reps or doing the reps alot slower (lets say 10 seconds per rep), sounds like you can still work your shoulder, biceps, triceps, and chest using the dumbells and balls (you can use the more slower approach for those bodyparts also, but not slow everytime, and you can do more Flys for your chest) and thats about all I can think of. You can still do lunges and deadlifts with your dumbells, and probably increase the dumbell weight by buying heavier ones later down the road. Bowflex has this dumbell set thats just a pair of dumbells that adjust to different weights. I've never used them, but they look pretty suitable for a home gym.

I'd suggest that you do this while still trying to get to a gym whenever possible to work on your strength and keeping your size, but this might help you to get in better overall shape. I remember when I was in the best shape of my life and I wasn't even associated with a gym. Just had a barbell set, some ankle weights, and sh*t I'd do in my room while also running and playing basketball every weekend. if I had incorporated weightlifting into what i was doing, I would've been on anothe rlevel. you still have that chance and if you can afford to still eat right, then you should do so..

im looking at one of those home gym's available at sears and dikks.

i need something that wont take up too much room and doesnt cost too much.

I liked one at dikks but the weight plates only went up to like 80 pounds, i need at least 250-300.

I saw one at sears made by weider but it was huge, way to big for my house.

any suggestions?
