Different genre alltogether, but Stanton Moore is the best drummer I've heard in ages.
Isn't that the Galactic/CoC dude? CoC is cool, Galactic is worse than trash.

based on the fact i understand all the slang etc, like dc said

but the hype AM are getting in the UK is ridiculous, alot of people i know and people on the internet are saying how great they are, acting like they're the GOAT

Oasis>>

Oasis might be the most overrated band ever. Right up there with The Doors.

You're trying to tell me that Oasis and The Doors aren't overrated?

Here in the states I never hear them mentioned or if I do it's like they are a joke.
I know it's probably different in the UK but here I just don't see how they are overrated.

the doors are disgustingly overrated, but oasis' first two albums are flawless.

SMH @ calling The Doors overrated, then saying Oasis has not one, but two flawless albums. Garbation.

The Doors as a band aren't so bad but with Morrison they're worse than trash.

You are one of the few heads on here whose opinion is usually on point, but I gotta disagree with this one.

c'mon man. the doors are practically a karaoke band fronted by an unrightfully pretentious self-indulgent twat. sooooo much of their catalogue is dismissable, even most of the songs on their greatest hits album. granted, they do have a few undeniably classic songs, but they are nowhere near deserving a fraction of the legendry status they have been granted. the doors ARE jim morrison, end of discussion.

oasis' first two albums, on the other hand, are great from start to finish. they're filled with big hooks, big guitar solos, great melodies, and a cocksure arrogance that can't be faked. i believe they're everything that personfies rock & roll. oasis even had more success as a band.

I hope you people who chose the Arctic Monkeys now realize you just bought into the hype!

Crazy thread..

Arctic I think, the overall album is better and it doesnt have filler- I don't dig Bloc Party's slower songs, they sound kinda bad to me.

Other question - Kele or Alex???????

As a lyricist or a singer? I'd give both to Kele.

I dunno about that one.. I still listen to Silent Alarm probably twice a month whereas my copy of Whatever People Say... is MIA

This thread is still funny.

Silent Alarm is still much better than the Arctic Monkeys album(s). The 2nd BP one is still pretty crap. I'm willing to except other opinions on this, as its fair enough to expect some will favour the Arctic Monkeys.

The Kooks better than the Arctic Monkeys though?!? Honestly, there is no accounting for taste. Kooks got less hype from proper press, I can see why you would go against the grain. But I bet you wouldn't now say this now. The Kooks are like by teenage girls, and thats who they right their songs for.

And to suggest that the drumming on Silent Alarm is average is still ridiculous. Comparing it to some Jazz/funk drummer was and still is utterly pointless. An unnecessary name drop. I can't remember any album of its ilk where the drumming gives as much enjoyment as on Silent Alarm. Perhaps on The National - Alligator/Boxer, but thats about it.

Both of their sophomore records were basically terrible, but I'd give the edge to Bloc Party.

I believe the first Kooks record is better than the first Arctic Monkeys record.

Beneath the Boardwalk > Inside In/Inside Out > Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

Also, you are correct in saying that I wouldn't say it now. Their new album is terrible, horrible, complete rubbish--and I can't even fathom how they put it together. I guess they said "this is our pop record" what was the first one then? I don't mind that they write their songs for teenage girls or that's who like them. It's not like all of the Monkeys or Bloc Party's fans are sophisticated gentlemen.

What I meant by this was that the Kooks are a very cynical band, who clearly tried to write the album to appeal to as many people as possible and sell records, rather than to write songs that they really wanted to.

Not as a reason why you personally would/wouldn't listen to them.

Indie music like this is farmed out to the kids in the UK like Britney Spears was 6 or 7 years ago, its pretty dire. If anyone ever mentions acts like Scouting For Girls or Jack Penate to you, you absolutely should punch them. Its worse than all the terrible pop imitations that came out with Britney, because now the kids have this whole notion that it (and them as a result) have more credibility because they like music with instruments and ugly singers. Its embarrassing really.

That Bloc Party blew me away when i first heard it..The drums are insane on most tracks.
