So, who do you think is going to be the next band to blow up? If I had to put money on it I'd say Arctic Monkeys.

islands.

the arctic monkeys already have a huge build up to them before their album even drops, so they have a good chance to get as big as bloc party, if you consider that blowing up.

Yeah, that would most definitely constitute blowing up.

I've listened to the Islands record twice and nothing jumped out at me. I probably have to give it a few more spins.

arctic monkeys are/going-to-be incredibly huge in the UK. like, libertines big. strokes big. oasis big.
they'll only make noise in the indie scene stateside, but it'll be enough to sell a few records.
have any of you heard their debut? its f*cking terrific. i haven't taken it out of my car stereo since i got it.

libertines big. .

Libertines were never big because of the music, just because their guitarist/singer was and still is a twat.

I would have to say in the UK it's definitely Arctic Monkeys. Have no idea how they'll do in the US, but you'd imagine that they won't get as much praise over there as they are doing here (Indie and pop circles in equal measure).

Artic Monkeys is the best bet, way too much hype for these guys who only have two songs out, and the one I heard was "ehh". But I seen that The Futureheads are releasing a new album and I could see them blowing up, or even The Shins getting really big with their next album due this year.

like, libertines big. strokes big. oasis big.

This is why the UK is an international non-factor.

the shins are going to sell a LOT of copies of their new record.
i blame it Garden State.

I've heard something titled Beneath the Boardwalk and like 15 other songs. I don't know if that's their debut album though.

Yeah, I don't think The Shins getting the Death Cab treatment is that far-fetched at all. Sub Pop has a couple of bands that could blow I think.

seriously. this is the album of 2006 right here.
i don't see anything on the horizon competing w/ it, aside from a new kanye and possibly a new radiohead album(s).

Well, none of these bands blew up.

Plus the new Shins record is pretty boring.

I'd call it on Midnight Juggernauts but they're already getting a lot of press, so it may have already happened.
