how long should you wait between sets to maximize results..... one minute, two minutes????

depends on your workout goals. In general, when you're lifting for strength(80-85% of your 1RM) you should allow more rest between sets(2 to 3 minutes). And when lifting for muscle growth/definition(60-65% of 1RM), the target rest time ought to be about 50secs-1min.
p.s. 1RM=1 Rep Max.
