View Full Version : To the dudes: If you are overweight, dont brag about how much you bench
I bulked to 195, bench was at an all time high...but *gasp* my bodyfat was gettin too high, i was getting all flabby. Of course you're gonna lift more, the greater you weigh. I cut all the way down to 160. I have worked very hard to get extremely close to having 6 pack abs. If i gain 10 pounds or so, boom...there goes my abs. Now my bench and overall strength has decreased some, without the extra weight.
So, if youre a fat guy...kill the noise about how much you bench. Take your shirt off and watch the girls run the other way. It took me a long time to learn that weightlifting is about bulking and cutting, and getting your body fat to lower and lower levels. If you really want to be at 12% body fat or less, chances are you are not going to be able to weigh more than 185 (without roids of course). If anyone here actually weighs 200 or more pounds and has a body fat below 12%, then i give you the upmost respect...because that is extremely hard to achieve. Im tired of these alpha male jack offs who can bench a lot but are fat or flabby. If i sat around and drank weight gainers and ate like a pig, i could easily be benching their amount.

lol kinda true..
there are alot of people more concerned about how much they lift..then actually being healthy and LOOKING healthy. But on the other hand...there are people out there that DO lift for just strength and maybe plays certain sports that requires you to step ya strength game up...it may not have nothing to do with the look.
I just lift for the look...im not into any sports beyond watching them at this stage in my life...
my bodyfat is very low though....im currently 5'10" ...170lbs...maxing 325-335 on the bench

bench press is NOT a measure of overall body strength so I don't see the point of braggin about it. Knowledgeable strong folks know that the true tests of overall body strength are the DEADLIFT AND SQUAT!!!! and I do know SQUAT!!!!!!! :)

^yea deadlift is a good measure of strength...probably moreso than bench press...but benchpress is still a good measure of strength aswell...alot of muscle groups are going to work there too...
yea u usually hear folks braggin about the bench out of everything else...its probably the most popular weightlifting excersize....i know peeps who do nothing BUT bench (which is dumb)...i know this one cat who is built weird cuz all he does is bench..his arms look funny cuz he doesn't work on them outside of benching..but dude can bench 405!

Yeah...bench doesn't have that many practical applications...
But yeah...fools do brag too much about their bench or physique.
But the real question is how many muthafukkas you make tap out?
That's the manhood test right there.....
Makin' grown ass wanna be diesel men scream like hoes from that ankle lock or tap out from gettin' choked...

That's the so-called measure of strength...and notice that most of them muthafukkas braggin' about their bench are the most unathletic muthafukkas you'll find...
Put them on the mat...they can't even wrestle 3 minutes w/o givin' up...
Muthfukkas can't even hit the bag for 10 minutes...
And forget sparring...clumsy asses all trippin' all over themselves in the ring and ish....
Just F'N worthless...
Look good, though...and they can intimidate the average every day punk ass simp.

some people only care about power, and don't lift to look good. they are called powerlifters. therefore they may be fatter, but also incredibly strong. if you can bench more than 100 pounds over what you weight, you are a strong mother****er... regardless of bodyfat.
and a lot of bodybuilders get fat in the offseason. ive seen pics of lee preist in the offseason and he's got a a huge gut. same with marcus rahl and some others. i stayed bulked most of the year... around 15-20% BF. then when it gets close to summer i cut down around 8-12%. i dont care about being ripped, but i like to be lean enough to hit the beach and pool. other than that i mainly lift for size and power. im not one of those cats that just lifts to get girls. i like to test my strength and ability to grow.

likewise. I don't like much about being cut, at the moment Im lifting to get big(get even bigger). Im about 12% BF and on a good bulking period.
...
Well, I'm lifting for sports and just to be overall strong. I'm trying to play football, so I got to get my bench to atleast 360 before summer (which I believe is possible) But I really don't even like benching. The only thing you can really do at my school is bench though, so I notice my chest geting bigger than my arms because I can't get any good arm workouts in my gym (especially for my tri's).
But once I get between 360-380, I'm definitely gonna say "**** you" to benching. I might just continue rep a 315, but so far i'm only around 305. Once I'm done with sports I'm just gonna stay repping 225-275.
But squats/leg presses and legs are my true love. I probably can't squat 550+ anymore, or deadlift 405+, but thats become I haven't really been able to do them correctly or consistently at school. But once I leave, I'm getting back in a real gym.
I think I'm doing pretty decent to be around 5'7-5'8, 170-180, doing some of the sh*t I do, but I could be better...and I will.

it depends how you lose the weight
if you lose weight by just starving yourself and just eating salad, of course your going to lose strength
but if you lose weigth by cardiovascular excersise then your not going to lose muscle and strength and if you eat more than salad but lean meats baked meats

wow, You're super lean at 4% BF. But that doesn't sound healthy at all dude and its basically the danger zone as far BF%. Im around 10-12% BF, Im "ok" lean but Im not too worried about it because Im still bulking.

4% bodyfat?
Whoa...not sayin' you lyin'...but to be walkin' around on the regular at that is just.....
Hell..anything under 5 is like....
I don't even think pro bodybuilders walk around off season under 5...hell..they probably at like 8% and higher I'd imagine.

Yeah, 4% BF sounded a bit sketchy to me as well. hmm. Thats basically the BF% that bodybuilders have when on stage. And they're weak as all at that BF%.
bodybuilders usually stay in between 8-10% BF range during off season.

people with short limbs can lift heavier weight on the bench for obvious reasons...its not THAT much of an incredible feat.
remember lil hercules from ripleys believe it or not? He could bench right under 3 TIMES his bodyweight at his peak.....yes.....i said 3
im 5 pounds away from benching twice my bodyweight...i cant imagine even being CLOSE to 3 times..
for the dude that said 4% bodyfat....sorry...dont mean to be rude...but youza gatdamn lie lol

amd people that has weightlifting equipment at a young age lift more than anybody
i had this one friend who had a bench hook up in his basement and he was stronger than everybody
he was 16 yrs old benching 250 but not in incline though
hes 22 now, so think how much stronger he is now if he kept weight lifting
hes lifting like 400 by now maybe
I saw a big dude (huge) repping 405 yesterday. It was inspriring, but at the same time buddy had a huge stomach/chest. It was like, he didn't have to bring the weight half way to what I do...
And thats why it's special to me what Earl does also. It might be his form, but he doesn't have a huge chest/gut to bounce off of or to decrease range of motion.
I repped 225 about 10x's yesterday. I felt ok. I hurt my arm somehow, so I didn't want to over do it. I basically warmed up with that then went to some machines to rep really heavy (like alot heavier than my freeweight max).
I feel inspired now. I almost got slammed wrestling the other day, and I felt alot weaker than I did b4, so now I'm inspired to get back and above, especially in my legs. Good news is, I can still leg curl the entire rack about 10x's. I went to another gym yesterday, and saw hug, powerlifting type dudes. One dude was leg-pressing with about 9 plates on each side (what I USED to rep about 5 times). I told him to leave them on, and he was like "you sure" .
I didn't squat, but I will next week. I been staying around squatting 315 15x's. I'm gonna go up to squatting 365 10-12x's, then gradually moving up to 450 8x's. I need about 50$ to get the protein I need when I start bulking again. I think I can gain about 15 of my 30lbs in about 2 months of intense working.
I just needed to say all this, I'm feel really inspired. I haven't felt like this for weightlifting in a minute. I guess being around dudes that are alot bigger than me (but some only a little stronger) is inspiring. I wish I could work out with some of you guys here...
have you ever watched the world's strongest? half the cats on that are overweight.

i dont believe the **** about earl boykins. i saw him on tv db benching with 50's. that sounds a lot more realistic.

Yet they burn over 8,000 calories a day (Resting Metabolism) from all the muscle. Those guys are true professionals when it comes to powerlifting. Some may have a gut, but the ones you see placing in the top 3 are in great shape, ex: Mariuz Pudzianowski (3-time World's Strongest Man).

Yeah, I admire strongman athletes alot as well. Brute strenght+endurance+speed. Alot of them come from powerlifting, and olympic lifting background.
Yep, Big Mariusz IS A FREAK OF NATURE, massive dude and he's pretty lean too, hes definitely less than 10% BF(probably 7%). My favorite strongman athletes are Mariusz Pudzianowski, Zydrunas Savickas, Vasyl Vyryistuk, and Magnus Samuelsson.
