Anyone taking Martial Arts. I'm thinking of taking Kung Fu. One of the reasons for this is fitness. How well does Martial Arts increase your fitness level as far as endurance, muscle tone, strength, etc?

well it depends on the art and your dedication to it. i take wing chun and kali which my teacher breaks it up to monday night 2 and a half hours for wing chun/ wednesday kali/saturday wing chun and on my days off ill do like 150 -250 push ups, jog, or weights depending how i feel.

i stopped doing from sept to november because of class but kept practicing and im in good shape and can tear someone up but i just started changing my diet so im seeing better results physicallly

Well, the Sifu(sp?) that invited me teaches Tien Shen Pai (Sky Mountain Fist I think). I don't know much about the different style of Kung Fu, but he said that its pretty rigorous. I already have a good diet in place and I've started losing weight just off of that. I just want to know how much of a change can I expect from martial arts from the fitness point of view.

The best martial art for a workout stand point is boxing. I've done lots of styles over the years, and nothin gives you as good a workout as boxing class under a legitimate boxing coach. Right now i do boxing, Muay Thai, and kickboxing (muay thai without elbows).

I do Kenpo with a trainer friend once a week, strictly for the fitness benefits. The only time I've sweat more was the first time I did a 90 minute yoga session with a legit instructor (looked like I went swimming in my clothes).

Martial Arts will get your ripped if you take it seriously and bust your ass training.

Seriously... 40 minutes of HIIT traning vs 40 minutes of martial arts don't even compare for me.
