Stern: NBA may turn off canned music

"We're trying to find a few games to experiment with for teams to give us a 'silent night' so to speak," Stern wrote to the questioner, identified only as JC from Boston.
Stern declined to elaborate on the noise-free plan, saying in an e-mail after the chat that he isn't ready to "give up the details yet."
During the chat, conducted Thursday, the questioner wrote, "If home fans can't get pumped up and make noise on their own, then there is something really wrong with your league. The game should be the entertainment and able to stand up alone without canned music."
Stern responded, "I agree with you. Unfortunately, most of our teams don't and think that the fans like the entertainment."
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said his team has tried it both ways, and that fans enjoy the noise.
"Customers come to have fun. We make sure that is what they get," Cuban said in an e-mail. "We don't sell basketball. We sell sore throats and big smiles on the faces of parents when their kids have a great time at the games."

I like it. Basketball halftime/timeout sh!t is ridiculous.

You got music that sounds like sirens blaring the whole time while they launch t-shirts into the crowd. No thanks. And I don't think it's right to play music while the ball is in play either.

Good, shiit is just annoying. The Cavs gotta be the worst, they have theme songs for everything, niqqa enters the game and it's like somebody coming down to the ring in the WWE.

I like watchin Knick home games cause they have very little music.

Not a big deal at all. WTF is up wit Stern?

It seems like he's been worrying about all the wrong things this year.

Nah, that shiit is annoying, music all game long? Music while the teams are actually running their plays, wtf kind of shiit is that? Why cant it be about the game, music is ok for timeouts and breaks in play, but like Mark pointed out, when the ball is in play it has to stop. This aint a videogame, are there any other sports that have Young Jeezy instrumentals blasting while teams are actually playing?

yeah i made a thread about this a couple months back. $hit is outta control. i hate the wack instrumentals. i don't mind the announcers telling the people to make some noise or the defense canned audio, but all these wack hip-hop songs need to go.

Glad they're cutting the music. It's totally unnecessary during actual play. I can see between quarters and during timeouts, but during games, it's not needed. I don't care how much you want to "entertain" your fans. If you want to hear music, go to a concert.

It seems like they were trying this out in the Suns-Clippers game last night in LA. I liked it.

At first I didn't like the dress code and whatever...but it seems to me that Stern is trying to class up the game, and I'm all for that. Make the product more serious and stop it from continuing to be a fiasco and bring it back to its roots; the game itself.

 to Stern.
