Self-confessed jazz junkie , hailing from Philly PA, is performing live at [b]Sounds of Brazil, Manhattan , on December 27th. He is a songwriter/singer in the truest sense, singing in a multitude of languages and refusing to compromise his talent for anything. He has worked with Common and appears in Common's "Like Water for Chocolate." Bilal has even worked together with Guru on his ultra-chill "Jazzmatazz Street Soul" album. Bilal has also worked with Erykah Badu writing and producing music.
Brooklyn's own Maya Azucena is also performing with Bilal, adding soul infused with funk and hip-hop. She has been listed and "highly recommended" by not only the NY TImes, but also the ever-critical Village Voice which has touted her as "the most impressive of the current hip-hop/soul/RnB diva crop."
