I guess if u don't like that type of heavy music (like the hard rock headbanging style) u won't feel it. It's good music for those angry about societal problems, like really angry.

The "noise" was what made their **** so great... nothin' else sounded like it at the time and my only gripe with their production was that the drums weren't always the strongest. Outside of that, their tracks sounded crazy and that was how it was supposed to sound to fit the content...
I fux wit' em.

PE greatest of all times.
....yea, i said it. :hmm:
Aside from their numerous classics,
It Takes a Nation of Million
Apocolopse 91
Frear of a Black Planet
He Got Game
Aside from the fact they brought whites and blacks together at concerts while making music primarily to educate and uplift urban peoples while dissing the govt and whites (corrupt white people) at the same time.
Aside from the controversial revolutionary lyrics that stimulated the minds of a generation and greatest national media attention.
Aside from the FBI profiling and tapping Chuck D's telephone.
Aside from Chuck D's influence on the media and proclaiming hip hop as "the black CNN".
Aside from death threats from all the haters.
Aside from the brillant collobrations with rap and rock mixed very well.
Aside from STILL making DOPE albums that are relevant today like
He Got Game,
New Whirl Odor
Rebirth of a Nation (2006)
Aside from their weakest albums being betta than 90 percent of rap music today
Yo! Bum rush the show
Etc.
Aside from the brillance of the greatest hype man rap has ever seen in the form of Flava Flav.
Aside from the revolunary production talents of Terminater X and Bomb Squad that lended their extraordinary talents to Ice Cube (first album which was a classic).
Now if you disagree, then you tell me how they are not the greatest rap group of all times. And back up your arguments with solid reasoning as I have demonstrated above.
Ooh, and PE is STILL schooling young cats in the game today, and never sold out if seldom while remaining true to their musical style....unlike other golden age artists that fall off hard.

It was a music for the times. Do more research into what was going on at the time and you'll understand. These guys were filling arenas before tours like the hard knock life. They were touring with Rock groups so the music balances that appeal. But more times, Fear Of A Black Planet & Apocalypse 91 & Greatest Misses Are my favourite PE Albums listen to those because that's when they really had clout. The first two albums were just building up their rep.
That's how the music sounded at that time. That's why Dre and a lot producers/artists listen to rock more than rap.
"Fight The Power" (of ignorance!)
I think the children here will understand once 50 Cent sounds retro and outdated.
It doesn't take very long for most people to think something sounds old. Boom Bap style is still the best for me, but that's old now. All this extra bass synth stuff will also sound old as **** one day.

Are you kidding? Nation of Millions has long been considered musically and lyrically one of the best of all time. The Bomb Squad's protection was groundbreaking and will never be matched, only equalled. The Dust Brothers came closest to matching that album on the Beasties' Paul's Boutique. Premo and Dre and the like are all great, but they are all not comparable stylistically to the Bomb Squad or Dust Brothers. So, in short, the threadstarter is just plain wrong.

I agree with you to a point... it's not that it sounds old though... some of their production was terrible then and nothing has changed that
im the "new born" type y'all are all describibg and i saw the "shut em down" music video on much music (canada) and liked it so i went out and bought it takes a nation of millions but i aint got around to listening to it yet...anyways point of this thread is that just cuz people mite not have been listein as long as you dont make u "superior"...itd be better if y'all just schooled us on whats good without the hate

I kinda get what the thread starter is saying. i think it's the fact that their music has no melody sometimes. Sometimes just sounds like rythmic noise patterns. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. One trick i realised though is that you gotta listen to the music very loud when it comes to P.E. not only to getyou hyped but also to catch nuances in the sound.

i totally agree with you. you had to be there and feel the sh1t. but overall we not talking about public enemy as a whole. we talking about their music and the replay value. overall i have a real big respect for the group and the message they were trying to portray to the people. PE has lots of depth most people cant comprehend, but their music alone cant save their careers.
Bomb Squad changed Hip Hop production and their technique and style makes them some of the greatest to ever do it
Thank you!
