View Full Version : If you do squats, there's really no point to doing stomach exercises then huh?

Im a bit confused with your question. Do you want your ab muscle to show?? If thats so, no amount of squatting will achieve this goal. Ab showing is mostly about cutting body fat and diet. I think we've have discussed this issue before, haven't we?
Anyway Squats are good for leg/quad strength and growth and Squats are also good for overall body(core) strength. but it does NOT do anything for "ab muscle showing".

What about deadlifts?

When I do squats, I almost touch the floor but in order for me to do that, I have to squeeze my stomach pretty hard as if I was doing crunches so it feels like I'm knocking two workouts with one punch. I'm guessing I'm the only one who experiences this burn/hardness in the stomach when I squat.

im far from a spokesman for ripped abs, since i don't usually see mine. but i do have very strong, well developed abs.
and i very seldom train them directly. i personally believe that compound exercises like deadlifts, squats, and bench work your ab muscles enough to make them look good if your BF% is low enough.
I only go all the way to the floor when I'm doing lighter weight and stretching, but with real sets I do them the way I'm instructed.
I don't know about compound exercises being all you need to do to help you abs, but i do know ab/lower back workouts help your compound numbers.

I guess that's what I originally should of said because I stopped directly training my abs a while ago but there still pretty hard just from doing squats. I need to start deadlifting again like now....
If your looking to truly define your abs and find muscles you didn't know existed, you will need to target those abs directly just like any other muscle group. Sure core lifts like squats, cleans, and deadlifts work them, but eventually whatever gains your seeing will plateau and you'll be stuck.

the only thing i agree with in this statement is if it said, the same day. I dont normally work abs or atleast not with weights on squats day. But i would also say that if u work ur abs u should be able to squat more. Maybe thats a reach but it makes more sense then the threads title.
