i saw beenie man on BET the other day claimin he's the king of dancehall, then tried doin some dance and ...**saves negative comment**.

so on a serious note, who is the real king of that sh1t? granted that beenie's been around the game for a while, looks like he's insecure about his position...

His new songs are nice though: Dude ft. Ms Thing, Shawnna and King Of The Dancehall (debuted last week on 106/Park).

so reggae heads who is the Real king of the dancehall? or comin hard.
vybz cartell? sounds like he's lyrically nice, though some of us cant understand that language.
kardinal is hard ...
is shabba ranks still alive?
mr. vegas anyone?
Elephant Man?
Sean Paul?
Wayne Wonder?
Snow?!!!
Shaggy?

so where'r the kings crowned? new york, jamaica or canada?

07-22-04, 05:34 PM
My Yute the first name up there should be Bounty Killer, the true king of dancehall and where is Sizzla on that list. Bounty is the king because he has not only played his role in the dancehall effectively but he has influenced many of the rising stars in dancehall. Elephant came up through Bounties scare dem label. Bounty launched Baby Chams popularity and career. He has brought the fastest rising star in the biz Kartel, and also Wayne Marshall, Predator and Jaguar. Beenie does recieve some recognition but the killer is the king of the dancehall.

so we expect a beef btwn bounty killer and beenie man? with what you sayin it looks disrespectful for beenie man to do a track called King Of The Dancehall. i mean its a nice track, but quite frankly i think Sean Paul fits that king title more than he does.

good looking on the background stuff BK has done. any recommended Bounty Killer tracks?

LOL, another typical predictable nitequil reply. thik3rd exposed you a long time ago. You're a sad insecure kid, I can tell.

rbk it got something to do with the music because gay bashing is part of dancehall. Beenie can still do a good show, still rips riddims(sometimes), but I can't take him really serious.

I think alot of yall are too caught up in the here and now.

Beenie has an ASTOUNDING amount of classic dancehall records
between 95 and 2004

You cant really say that about any other dancehall artist. Shabba had his couple years (88-91), Buju had his (92-94), Shaggy had his, etc...

But NONE OF THEM have the catalog that Beenie has. Granted he peaked in the late 90s, but even in the past few years, he's good for a few hits a year and always a solid performer with a dependable quality record on any riddim album.

No way that he's not the king in terms of all-time dancehall.

As far as right right now - Id agree though, he's not running isht the same way as say Elephant Man or Sean Paul...

Currently, I'd say Spragga, Sizzla, and Mad Cobra. But overall prolly Bounty, Buju, or Beenie.

Bounty Killa is my personal choice for king of dancehall. He has been consistent for as along as I can remember. Always bring the goods. I got some of his early stuff on cd here, such as celluar phone, still listen to it.

Beenieman though i think is more prolifiic than bounty killer, he probably has a lot more hits, but bounty killer has much more substance.

Buju has the best album by reggae artist in Til Shiloh and deserves to be mention in this for all his other stuff too.

Spragga benz is step bellow the main three. For a while I thought he would be the next to blow, but he blow it.

Vegas and Elephant man also deserves a say cause they been holding it down the last few years while some like buju are kinda fading.

I like Vybz Kartel but he needs a few more years. He could be just another Red rat, hot for year, and then red rat who?

I don't consider Buju dancehall. Wayne Wonder, either, I think he's more on the lines of soca music.

It's either between Beenie Man, Bounty Killer or Spragga Benz IMO. I like Sean Paul, too, but he can be a little thin.

The fellas shouldn't sleep on Tanya Stephens, either.

Great thread. The only guys how should be mention are Buju, Bounty, and beenie. Buju has the best album but he also had the greatest reign from Browning hit Jamaica he was just the MAN till like 95, he released like a great song per week. Then Bounty and Beenie came on the scene around the same time and if I’m correct I believed bounty won the battle between the two, greatest battle of all time regardless of music class Bounty has the better substance and credibility with the people while beenie has the better flow/delievery. Ask the chicks in Jamaican they will say beenie ask the guys its bounty. I would choose buju because he is a mix between the two from hits to substance but not as much gun talk as bounty and the substance in his music pushes him ahead of both, end of thread, oh and buju is the closest you will get to Bob Marley, its astonishing how the guy made a hit about were a fuuking condom, his consciousness in his songs from beginning to now is just unbelievable.
