View Full Version : How Do I make CD quality music on my pc?
so all i need is a good mic for good quality. What about compressions? I know a mic would make quality but now I want my vocals to blend in wit the music. I'm talkin about how all music is today. Do I need to add echo or reverb. I tried somethin like that but i still wasn't gettin what I wanted.
muh advise to you iz go and check out the waves plugins as well as the multiband-compressor which is already integrated in cubase sx 2.0. i also would recommend you the Magneto Plugin which simulates the anlog recordings for ya voice..
I have been hindered by not knowing what the hell to do to get my computer set up to record off of. I appreciate all you guys dropping your knowledge, helping a brother get in the game.

i haven't read the thread, but I'd say you need to get a decent mic I particularly like the CAD M9 for little bucks runs for about 400 to 300 new maybe find it on ebay cheaper. if you have some bucks get the safesound P1 its a preamp/compressor/limiter thats about 500 if not you could get a preamp only unit like the m-audio dmp3 or the vtb-1 , after that buy a decent sound card like the m-audio audiophile for ~150, if you have some dollars get a lynx2 L22 ~650.

its probably an AKC C1000 if so its crap, I cheap mic thats useable would be the Studio Projects B1 ~100 that combined with a Studio Project VTb1 preamp or M-audio Dmp3 preamp, you vocal chain will be decent enough for little bucks.

lets see.
i got a akg c3000. You know anything about the e-mu 1820M? I'm really lookin forward to gettin one but don't wanna waste my money. I heard it was a good product. Plus it already has a pre amp in it and I can use the speakers I got. Adding on is the key term when it comes to that. Would it do me good tho?

I agree with teacher the pre's on it look tight.. we also use the c3000 for a lot of projects running it thru a Art Preamp into our Echo Layla 24/96 took awhile to tweak the sound right but we are now getting great results.

lotta good info here, but alotta bad info here, i wont call nobody out but to anybody readin use this thread as reference and look it up yourself, dont use this thread as a complete guide.
as for compression, yup, very necessary, since hardwares expensive and u want the free route, just download the hacked waves plugins. The C1 and Q is all u need if u only runnin cheap PC gear.
Also, when u buy a commercial CD, chances are it was recorded in a studio with at least $5,000 of equipment. And then taken to an engineer for mastering which costs even more.
money doesnt make the music, but when u talkin commercial release quality, yes it does. Nothin u do on ur computer will ever sound like a commercial release, but u can try and get close, make sure u buy some studio monitors for mixing. Mixin on comp speakers wont work unless ur a genius. And make sure ur interface has XLR inputs/preamp dont **** wit audigy 2. if you can afford the mbox ($450) then go for it.
Also, i didnt read everything but has anybody mentioned a power conditioner???
when u got equipment it has to be grounded or ull hear noises in your mix. Electricity currents make sounds and need to be grounded. I dont mean a surge protector, i mean a power conditioner to plug all the stuff into so it grounds the current.
and defenitely make sure u have a condenser mic. Shures are great mics for micing instruments but not vocals. Someone mentioned studio projects on here, that seems to be the favorite of cheap mics, go with it.
as for quality, samplin MP3s hurts your quality. and if u have a slow computer u can still get good quality u just cant have as many tracks or plugins running. If your havin trouble even recordin one track, then theres no way around it, u need a faster computer...
Acid Pro 5.0 is the best free program, find it on MIRC wit a keygen, it comes wit some grooves that aint that bad. It works wit Reason also thru rewire which is also online for free, best combination around...

aite. I got an
emu 1820m
akg c 3000
no monitors.
a mogami cable
Now I have to figure out how to use cubase. Its confusing as hell. Is Isolation really important? I guess the acoustics in my room aren't that bad. I'm thinking about taking some mattresses and making a lil booth out of them but that'll be a whole lot of movement. I don't gotta mic stand neither so I just hang it over the closet door. Thats my whole recording process. If anybody can suggest some plug ins I should get, holla at me. My pc crashed last yr so I lost my mic modeler and all the other good plug ins I had.

the only people that talk about the SM58 are internet people who don't know how to build a studio or what they're buying...
i don't fukk wit Shure, cause to me they have the shyttiest product for recording...the SM58 is NOT a studio mic, it is NOT supposed to be used for recording, it IS a performance mic i.e. for live shows, it WILL NOT give you a clean recording of anything becuase it is a CARDIOD mic, not a CONDENSOR...to be honest it's not even a good performance mic, it's actually an overall trash mic that no one should own unless you just don't care about quality.
We got a pro here, huh? LoL.

for the vocals go to guitar center and get a cheap compressor and a cheap tube preamp. and u will sound better. but I'm thinking maybe a real studio is always best....do your beat at home on a 24 bit soundcard then go to the studio and spit.
