I have no idea why I'm doing this (more than likely boredom) but here's my list of the top 5 SOHH emcees EVER.. I've been peepin' the site off and on since like late '98, so I've seen alotta come.. I've seen alotta go.. but lemmie kick this **** off proper like in no order..
1. Da Warden/Confusion and or Buddah Mac - Ok, I cheated.. I had about six in mind and since these two sorta kinda resemble each other (don't hit) me I'll put them together.. they're both ridiculously talented (although Buddah loses me more times than I care to admit) and are probably two of the most profound lyricsts I've ever had the honor of studying.. I say studying, cuz they on some deep **** usually and I have to read it about 4 or 5 times over to grasp the peice.. but their some sick cats and it SURE WOULD BE NICE IF THEY'D DO A COLLABO OR SOMETHING.. *hint hint nudge nudge*
2. Myth Killa - This cat was on a whole 'nother plane.. seriously, I used to be blown away by the amount of skills this kid had and he was young as **** too (like my age :D).. his flow/wordplay/lyrics were all there..
3. Da Queen Of Espionage - Q of E is an enigma.. she's like 80% emotion and 20% talent.. don't miscontrue that as saying she doesn't have talent cuz she's probably got more in her pinky than I'll ever have in my entire body, but she's probably one of the most emotional writers I've seen on her.. You read that **** like "Damn.. that's heavy".. She could write a joint about her running over a dog and make YOU feel bad about that **** (but not me cuz I'm too gully for that).. Oh yeah, and she's cool as **** too... and stuff..............
4. Da Mercinary Solja aka Intellect aka Merc_Cuban aka Whatever The **** - Dre pisses an ungodly amount of folks off, as well as receives an extrordinary amount of hate, but NO ONE can discredit the work he put into this board.. There was a point and time where this ***** would be batting like 6 or 7 cats AT A TIME..   Easily one of SOHH's greatest battlers ever.. Also look out for his album droppin' soon (Check the Audio Lounge for details)..
5. Metaforce - This cats wordplay was RIDICULOUS.. EASILY my favorite poster of all time.. He was accused of being an Eminem clone (although the influence was apparent) but I never thought he just jacked dude's steez.. money was just plain nasty with the lyrics.. we used to go back and forth waaaaaaaaaay back in the days in those numerous classic FLOWZONE cyphas and he was just murdering ****.. damn, that cat was cold..
So there you have it, say what you will about my list, and if you want post your own, just include WHY you chose that person in order to keep it movin'..

Thanks for all the praises and stuff but i too fat to see my feet so how am i gonna kick rhymes? Those many battles that you peeped many years ago were ok. I mean im still spitting the same kinda sh!t considering ive been on this site for how long now? I dont even know how to rhyme, I whine it tough tones, and punch in cuz i lost my breath control in a undercooked pork burger years ago. Feels me dirty? But thanks anyway. I still suck, you still suck, we just suck.
Dont forget to buy my album that was supposed to be realesed 3 years ago on my cousins label that my sister funded that i cant even get signed to. They just give me throwback beats for my throwback rhymes.

No RTK.. this is sort of like older hip-hop heads who claim KRS One and all those other losers were talented, just because they came from their time, and because vintage means you're good.. there's no proof

THE TRILOGY:
-Part 1
It begins, hazy June night, playin hustle under street lights/ break for Gatorade, radio played, our subject hit by sound and hyped/ beat don’t move his feet but mind spins with vocabulary/ another cat mumblin, rhymin barely, Tre marks him adversary/ lets loose his first freestyle, and an emcee is born/ props given and thoughts swarm, bore dreams to perform/ sets focus serious, writin til he can’t move his wrist/ seeks feedback of daps or dis, then reworks where **** missed/ months walk through, he doin clubs, city-wide builds a buzz/ homemade demos for his peeps and they boys demandin dubs/ a tape hits producer’s ear, calls Tre up, intentions clear/ workin on local compilation and wants his participation/ Tre jumps at the proposition, even earns his position/ on the tape with the great rhyme he kicks on audition/ track number 6 is where he fit on the mix/ and after album gets released, the love starts to increase/ getting local show play, so hits producer right away/ for a pro demo Tre can shop to labels that’ll pay/ after months of shippin tapes, responses accumulate/ his fav label needs a newest act, ink bled on contract
-Part 2
so he’s dotted line obligated to have an LP created/ within a half-year’s time, so thought set all on rhymes/ label’s production crew gives him beats to rummage through/ labelmates wanna collab too (promotion label makes em do)/ soon a month passes by, Tre got his debut scripted/ hits the studio and rips it, label reps dead equipment/ “we pictured a different direction, let us tell you our perception/ on our artist’s first try, need broad-market based perfection/ to get big sales goin so our profits stay growin/ and this effort that you’re showing tells me you ain’t knowin/ our intentions for you, Tre: cash cow for year 2/ so do mostly what you’re told to, and next album you’ll be ‘true’”/ so they tell him rhyme on trends, *****es, streets, ice, ends/ regretfully picks up the pen and starts to write again/ after some negotiation, Tre keeps some of his creation/ but label still holds final say on what goes and what stays/ finally recording completed, as label masters, Tre is seated/ before an image consultant, whose every word is to be heeded/ “act this way at this event, in interviews, here are your statements/ then appearances on these TV stations, with wardrobe in a week, be patient”/ the contract sez he must comply, flexin an image that’s a lie/ a projection of what suit & ties think will help their sales rise/ the promotion is wide reachin, all media is preachin/ for headz to buy this album, Tre weakened from corporate leechin/ he hears his promos played, and is ****in amazed/ that wack beats were subbed in, producer's sales numbers lovin/ after delays to gain more hype, the album finally drops/ barely hits the charts, label labels it a flop/ sold decent, not near gold, won’t recoup money oversold/ tho critics claim some cuts bold, Tre just fell into the fold/ of another in the current mold, his contract ain’t renewed/ he retreats, becomes subdued, and love of hip-hop gets all skewed/ from public eye, fell out, returns home labeled sell out/ label pimpin the next one, no love for work Tre shelled out
- Part 3
a few months later, Tre rode life’s elevator/ lobby to roof, sudden decent has him crashed in parent’s basement/ depression’s set in from the lesson: even fulfilled dreams can shatter/ and after shards get further scattered, stings to speak on subject matter/ slowly settles back in own life, but still it’s like a thrown knife/ whenever headz mention his debut or argue if he stayed true/ but time heals those wounds as well, a few months later you could tell/ Tre’s mood was much improved but love for rhymes removed/ catz beg for battle sessions, Tre sez he ain’t even messin/ he was taught a tragic lesson, that ripped him from hip-hop’s essance/ impressions of him change now, not a fake cat for the take down/ but a butchered corporate cash cow…know the cycle spins like tao/ and one night of b-ball on the block, a beat’s bangin out the box/ Tre’s straightning up his socks, peeps turn the radio off/ and look in amazement at the sight they see before em/ when beat stopped, Tre ignored em, streamed consciousness and poured it/ out unconsciously until his flow floods the street/ his echo hits his ear, and finds that he’s creatin/ the lines everyone’s in awe of, his boys all show him love/ push him out the basement, his skill shoves him above/ as he rekindles the passion for poetic tounge lashin/ soon rhymin on the block again, drawin crowds til 3AM and then/ the headz finally give respect back, bump the ill album tracks/ he then relates the facts on how they got him up the ass/ but he won't play ***** again, never a poster-boy or mannequin/ for public display, and that very day, hooked back up with his friend/ producer who started him out, tells him, “this time there’s no doubts/ gonna show what hip-hop about, and I’ll take the route/ of an independent label, one that holds their artist stable/ in higher regard than earnings, that’s the environment I’m yearnin”/ so they collabo on a promo, cut called “**** The Corporation”/ where Tre seperates the hip-hop nation from the industry’s creation/ elation from the underground as a new anthem is crowned/ headz who hated give pounds as the response from all around/ gets that indie attention, finds a fav, signs with intention/ to make a record of redemption that’s 100% his invention/ turns out to sell well in local markets, draws huge crowds in the parks and/ every single track he sparks it hits dead center of the target/ content now that he sees how he fell to distorted vision/ of made-for-TV music had him trapped into a prison/ of profit; hip-hop unlocked it, and his essance has been clensed/ after hard road that he traveled, a new journey begins….

I disagreed w/ Keylo cats like KRS, Rakim etc. are ill. Just like cats on SOHH from circa 98 are ill. The above post is some proof, no doubt but it's not like there haven't been ill or iller pieces since then. And so it's like havin' top 5 emcees and havin' nothing but young cats or nothing but old cats. Neither one is truly accurate. The true depiction of greatness prolly has a mix from "old" and "new".
Plus, y do u post here anymore anyway...all you do is post to hear yourself speak.
Look out for Buddah's new LP "Mirror Recitals"

this is sort of like older hip-hop heads who claim KRS One and all those other losers were talented, just because they came from their time, and because vintage means you're good.. there's no proof
-krs was honest, clever, witty with words..
he spiced up the 'conversation'. if ur gonna give rundmc any props, ur gonna be blown away by krs lyrically.
any emcee that is hot today is only so because they got a chance to build off krs or a kat who built off him.
what u think? that kats werent flowing like eminem in 85 *just because?
so it truelly is a matter of time.. just like in sports.
u cant say ty cobb sux because he had less than 200 homeruns.
u would say that because we are living in a glorious homerun period, but if u are a fan of 'baseball' u also respect its history and can make observations on what was going on around the game to prevent 60 hr's.
ball parks were 100 feet bigger
kats didnt have the supplements they do today or weight room technology
its often refered to as the deadball era because the balls were not stitched as tight... todays balls are like them skybouncers u buy in a quarter machine at the supermarket.
same analogy can be put to hiphop. the art has grown. the rhyming of back then fit the beat.
there is no doubt tho that it has gotten more poetic and deep and real(tone) and all around better.
no question..
do more than half the rappers today that go platinum have better skills (at this point) then the best rapper in 85?
yes.
but the game today is FOR today.
there is no game in hiphop.. it is one continuously building entity.

I'll take 85 but not 88..
Kane, KRS, Rakim, vs. Fabolous, Lil John, Nelly..
Remember YOU said half. I feel that there is a level of ignorance and understandably so about older hip hop artists. Cats don't know wut it was like to hear Slick Rick on the radio. You can measure his greatness not ONLY by his music but his INFLUENCE. W/o Rakim there would be no Nas. Flat out. W/o Kane...Jay would not exist. ANd this is in more ways than one cuz Jay's VERY first time on Wax wuz on a Kane record.
I respect new artists AND old artists but A LOT of people speak on HIP HOP w/o knowing a lot of historical facts.

-exactly..
yea there's no question.. 88 braught it there.. it was like the year the game came together at a level which years to follow would be measured up against.
slick rick joints are still on the radio... and a story is a story from the books of a hunnit years ago to now. slick rick's stories are BETTER than most of today. still.
if u listen to rakims rhymes over and over u might start getting a different meaning from the one u origionally got.. the way he structured his bars to build within eachother.
and he was all confidence and it was all pure emcee material.. no charactature. no coolaid.

I find myself in a timewarp too...because I grew up on the late 80s/Early 90s era...that to me was the best timeframe...I can't really get into all this ish that's out now...Chingy...Fabolous...Eminem...hell, I don't even like 50s CD no more once I came to my senses...and don't even LET me get on artists that's out who don't even write their own lyrics...that to me just REAKS gimmick.

Let's use that logic for finding out who are the ALL-TIME NBA greats.
If I'm understanding you correctly, YOUR list would have people that could beat anyone, even todays stars. But again by having a list like that you don't truly capture greatness. The NBA greats of all time aint McGrady, Kobe, Iverson and Duncan. Sure in time they may make that list but currently, Jordan, Erving, Johnson, Bird, etc. hold the rank.
Same in hip-hop or SOHH. It's the greatest over a period of time.
